Why is there no pride for the national team in England ?

Cannot understand it, is it because England is such a reserved nation.

I know the Irish and Dutch both been rubbish and are going home but the support in both those countries ( I have been to both in last few weeks ) is so visible compared to where I live in England.

All seems a bit Meh!! here

Because the team is full of shits, someone told me the other day Joe Hart was the only player in the WC 2010 not to have a criminal record

Also we play shit football and ousted one of our most gifted players in recent years (Scholes) so we can play Lampard and Gerrard. Not since 98 or maybe 96 have people really got behind the national team

Surely if they got to the final the mood would change ?

Might even support them myself if that happened, doubtful though

John Terry is in the sqaud/team.

Need I say more?
Agreed and people keep on citing this innocent until proven guilty bollocks despite the fact most people would be suspended until the result of a investigation, my friend recently went to a stadium tour of chelsea and was told the groundsman that abused evra was guilty and but the club supported the ground man even though they knew what he did was wrong.

So I expect the players to support Terry even if they knew he was wrong! That said the Chelsea dressing room is very split so who knows!

I will always support England but I think the following picture will show why a lot of people find it hard to support the current squad.

Edit: and no it has nothing to do with Wiggins

I like the fact that it's all a bit understated this year.

But the issue is the entrenched feeling towards other clubs. People see individuals rather than a team. "oh he's crap because he plays for [any team other than Spurs]..!"

Plus we're all a little perplexed over Hodgson vs Harry and the fact that half the squad is injured...

But for some reason England fans are a little odd. If we think we're good enough we brag until everyone despises us (especially other home nations) and if we think we're rubbish we pan and slate until everyone is a hate figure.

Actually this year, the whole maeh thing is probably doing us (England) some favours.

Of course I noticed the media were big to up us after the Sweden win and I personally don't want to see that... quietly get on with the tournament and get as far as possible and then a good round of applause when they get back after having lost to Spain in the Quarters.

That would be fine.

It's very odd. I always used to support the England team and despite saying I didn't carethis year, I assumed that once the competition got going I'd start supporting them. But against France I only really objected to France scoring because it was Nasri, and against Sweden I simply didn't give a shit. In fact I was almost disappointed when we won the game.

I don't really know why this is. I've never been particularly nationalistic and I think my general downward feelings towards England as a country probably have something to do with it, but ultimately it must be because I simply can't bring myself to support a team with the likes of Terry, Cole, Rooney and Gerrard in it. I just can't do it.

I disagree, I find strange that players who had a bad season are being rewarded with a call up and that a player who has hardly played for a under performing team has been called up as a back up RB

Well there's that too, but to be honest who the hell was there left to pick?
Lennon, Rio... You start running out of non injured options pretty swiftly.

I think there was load of players to pick the fact that I can think of NINE english RB's better than him says it all imo

International football and club football are totally separate, why are so many comparing the 2 ?

Just because a players club side is Arsenal or Chelsea does not equate to me wanting to see them fail for their national team. When it comes to internationals and big tournaments like this or the World Cup club allegiance has to be put aside

It all disappeared after the World Cup 98. After that came Keegan/Sven/Mcl...

You can think of nine better English right backs who weren't injured... Ok I accept the challenge. Name them.

We have all had our fingers burnt too many times. It's better not to expect anything from England, and then you won't be disappointed.

There are a number of reasons.
  • Lack of recent success
  • Boring style of football and lack of skill and flair in general
  • A number of unsavoury characters in the squad
  • After spending ten months of the year jeering opposing team's players its difficult to get behind them for 3 weeks
  • The realisation that when you take away all the amazing foreign talent from the Premier league we are left with mainly dregs.
  • A perception of England players being mercenaries, only playing for the money
  • WAGS and such rubbish that follow the England team
  • The national press building us up to be world beaters after scraping a 1-0 against San Marino (e.g.)
  • Rooney's hair

I meant that weren't injured but I will give a go anyway

1. Richards
2. Johnson
3. Naughton (steady eddy imo)
4. Simpson
4. Ryan Taylor
4. Jones
7. Phil Neville
8. Tony Hibbert
9. Ryan Shotton
9. Wilkinson

All these players have played more games than kelly for their clubs and done well in the premier league and this list doesn't include very promising RB's from the championship

The last few tournaments are probably the reason. We stunk the place out at every one.
