What`s wrong with our attack?

Our finishing has been poor and we consistently fail to turn good possession and attacking situations into goals or even clear cut chances..

It`s really frustrating as this has been the case for maybe 2/3 seasons we just don`t seem to take care with the final pass and too many of our players seem to have tunnel vision or are just plain greedy. This is costing us points...... I see the improvement in winning the ball and defensively but really wish we had more attacking invention.. I am not sure if we need new personnel in January or something needs to be done on the training ground. I suspect it`s a combination of the two.

The thing that is driving me around the bend at the moment is the lack of width. Our fullbacks are giving us next to nothing going forward.

Kyle won't though, will he. We know that. He had a great game today, but he's not dynamic in the final third, generally.

Rose gets forward and he's the best attacking option out of he and Davies but, like I said before, he's still not good enough in the final third and rarely produces anything incisive there..

Poch has some tough decisions to make for next season as we need our fullbacks to work properly along each third of the pitch for us to get to where we want to be. They are absolute crucial to the way we want to play.

Honestly surprised to see this thread, as I think our attack has improved tremendously already since last season. It looks much more dynamic, more balanced, and more incisive - and this is even without Son given he provides so much of these qualities. I think we're still waiting to see players gel a bit, as the healing time is going to take awhile after such terrible performances from the attack last year and the resulting loss of confidence. Players didn't at all trust themselves or one another, and so I think it's going to take time to build that back up. Son seemed to restore a considerable amount of that, and Lamela and Eriksen seem to be picking up a bit of swagger, but it won't be immediate.

Nonetheless, I like the direction things are headed and it's my impression that we're on an upward trend with regard to the attack, even if at the moment things aren't yet full swing. I'm confident that the end result will be something we will all enjoy.

I can't see us replacing those two in one go in a million years, even if we did I'm not fully confident at the moment that we would get better replacements. So I think Poch will have to work with what he's got.

Like I said when poch first came here - it would take 3 seasons to sort us out.

Next summer's window will be interesting. We'll start the fine tuning.

I don't think there can be much wrong with an attack that manages to put 4 past man city

Sorry you are totally wrong............. 2 offside goals, one corner and one direct free kick.. It was a very good performance but with a huge amount of luck.. We also need to make and finish chances from open play in my view..

Players don't have the desire to get into the box and score.

We looked better against Palace and obviously City, as Son definitely helped with his intelligent movement and some pace.

Since he's been injured we've struggled up front again.

I just pray he's back soon. I think we'll be ok for the next couple of games without him but we need him back for the NLD for sure.

Hopefully he's back for the Villa game.

Kane, our only striker in the whole squad, has one goal in 9 games. What more needs to be said why we aren't scoring

We've not quite figured out what works for us with the front 4. The defence and centre mids have been solid this season, giving us a lot more security at the back, but we've had difficulties with the 4 in front. Kane is playing well enough but not scoring. A lack of competition to keep him on his toes, or even a player to come in to give him a rest, doesn't help. He's either being too greedy or just not taking his chances well enough. He seems to drop back a lot which (as I've said in another thread) makes me wonder if the 3 behind him aren't doing enough.

The attacking mids are the main issue I think. We've not found any consistency there, although injuries don't help. Before his injury Son looked very good, a willing runner who will try and get forward whenever Kane drops. N'Jie hasn't settled yet, and I'm worried that he lacks a brain, although it's early days still so we'll see. Townsend isn't progressing whatsoever and Poch clearly doesn't expect much from him.

Chadli does pick up goals and assists but goes missing all the time and provides incredibly little defensively. Eriksen can hit a mean free kick but can't bloody take a corner and disappears out of games too often despite the odd moment of magic. Lamela puts in the biggest shift out of the 3 but often fails to pull things off.

The 3 behind Kane, whatever combination they happen to be, are often frustrating. They'll have a blinding game one week and go missing for the next couple. Every now and again you'll get that odd game where all of them will be switched on and we look deadly, and then there's games like today where none of them really do anything of note.

I think it's almost entirely down to the fact kane is off form. We are creating chances which hasn't been the case in the last couple of years, and the rest of the team had been chipping in, just not the striker. If he finds his form again we could be a real threat to the top 4 this year

We lack competition and depth up front. A few years back we had Berba, Keano, Defoe and Bent. Only then we lacked quality and depth in other positions. Spurs never get it all right at the same time. Few teams do. I think they're called champions.

The answer is simply. unable to score goals!
Spurs scored 4 vs ManC, 2 vs Swansea though so I it's a bit of a knee jerk reaction just because Spurs fired blank vs Liverpool, in a game they could easily have scored 3-4 goals.
