But that isn’t really the point, is it? I didn’t see him saying it was right or wrong that people were reacting in the way they were, just that they were.Yes but what people are pointing out is that there is far more justification for reacting this way to Arteta than there ever was for Wenger.
Yes, thanks, but the number of misunderstandings and disagreements suggest that the fault was in my post, not making that clear.I think @davidmatzdorf is saying that the reactions to the appointment of Wenger and Artera are similar, not the men themselves. I certainly remember a lot of head-scratching from the commentariat when Wenger first arrived...
Curiously - and contrary to his reputation - virtually the first English manager to promote these ideas wholeheartedly was Sam Allardyce.Wenger brought in certain fitness practices that weren't being employed at the time; like not heavily drinking and eating fish and chips all the time. That's not even sarcasm - that's essentially what happened and it started a revolution in the game. Barely anyone was taking nutrition and dieting seriously at the time.

I thought what you said was clear, David.Yes, thanks, but the number of misunderstandings and disagreements suggest that the fault was in my post, not making that clear.
I was trying to comment on how fans of opposing clubs go all supercilious and smug, sans evidence, when an opponent makes a left-field appointment, but it came out as if I were equating Arteta and Wenger.

He was one of the first to engage with ProZone (and the use of data in general) as well. One anecdote is that he had his minions conduct lengthy analysis of the areas into which corners were cleared and then stationed Jay-Jay Okocha (I think) in the most likely zone to take advantage of shooting/second ball opportunities.Big Sam’s problems have always been playing style, by all accounts he’s a pretty good, modern coach. But I think he got himself stuck in a rut of managing clubs with modest resources that needed to stay up to survive, and so results meant far more than style. I do wonder what he could have done with the current England side had he not put his foot in it. Would be interesting to see him manage a genuinely good side and see what happens.

Allardyce has always been very modern/progressive with his management/coaching style. Unfortunately the playing style has never been that.Curiously - and contrary to his reputation - virtually the first English manager to promote these ideas wholeheartedly was Sam Allardyce.
Yeah but then you may as well say the same if they had hired Neil Warnock.I think @davidmatzdorf is saying that the reactions to the appointment of Wenger and Artera are similar, not the men themselves. I certainly remember a lot of head-scratching from the commentariat when Wenger first arrived...
Well, first off, appointing Neil Warnock would be beyond the realms of feasibility and would evoke more than just head-scratching.Yeah but then you may as well say the same if they had hired Neil Warnock.
"Well they made fun of Wenger so let's see how [insert manager here] does"
It's just a blanket empty statement then.
You forgot correcting other posters' grammar...Can't you people read? The title of this thread is "What Our Opponents' Fans Are Saying About Us 19/20".
In the last few days we've had an in-depth discussion about xG, gooner reaction to the appointment of a new manager, our reaction to their reaction, our assessment of whether he'll be any good and now an embryonic chat about the merits of Sam Allardyce and Neil Warnock as managers.
Will you please get a fucking grip and take irrelevant shit like this to the appropriate place? This is one of the best threads on SC when it isn't being continually spammed.
And comments who state what the thread title is and don't post any information to help people discuss what the thread title says we are supposed to.You forgot correcting other posters' grammar...
What's really disappointed me about that is this idiot has focused all the negativity on us. And as a result, Chelsea's appalling anti-semetic, holocaust invoking behaviour goes completely un-commented on in the media.Imagine this. Chelsea fans saying we are racist. That’s what that mindless cretin who probably can’t tie his own show laces or control his bodily functions is leaving as a legacy to his children.
On second thoughts, lets go back to spamming the thread for the next few days. This from our dear friends at The Shed End forum:
What today has confirmed for me is that we have a manager who is up to the job.
Something Spurs fans will struggle with and wont be able to say for the next 2 seasons.
We christened their new stadium with 3 points, so let it be known, three point lane has merely moved a few meters, but it's still Three point lane.
