On a slightly different note I think it’s wrong that 2nd place in the CL doesn’t get you into next year’s CL. Academic now but it’s much more of an achievement than winning Europa.

I can see where you're coming from but the big European clubs, led by Juventus, are already doing everything they can to prevent "promotion and relegation" from the Champions League, and thereby reduce the opportunities for improving clubs to get a chance to qualify. Guaranteeing the runners up a place in the following year's competition would inevitably reduce the number of teams qualifying through their league position. It's worth reading https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/european/champions-league-proposals...

Arsenal and a Manchester United fan at work were talking about how football isn’t the same anymore. I laughed in their faces and explained that they only feel like that because they’re not winning everything. Which they agreed.

No resilience these lot.

Starting a rusty and not fully fit Harry would only be for the benefit of Liverpool.
Rusty...I wouldn't even go there. The whole squad has 3 weeks from the season ending Poch isn't silly if Kane is ready he plays simple.

Point notes . Of course in general the 2 CL finalists will have already made it through their league positions. It is probably never going to happen that both finalists will fail to qualify that way. But if there is a place set aside for the winners of the CL it would be easy to change that to “ the winners of the CL will gain a place in the following year’s competition and the runner up will gain a place if they haven’t already earned it through their league position and if the winners are already admitted through their league position “

I don’t really see that as having any significant impact on the competition as a whole.

Who'd do you want to be bought out by? Unicef? Children in need? The red cross? Many people who make a lot of money have done so using unscrupulous means. Even our beloved Joe Lewis ruined many people finacially to make his money.

Profiting from something happening isn't the same thing as causing it to happen in order to make money. Two very different things.

EDIT - never mind, just seen your later post. No point rehashing the same argument. Ignore me ::)

sorry I can't agree about the result bit
WE MUST WIN and I think we will
COYS
I've had absolute confidence so far. I knew we would get a result at barca, I knew we would beat Dortmund, city and ajax. I just knew it.

I'm still completely confident that we will win.

No doubt. When I look at objectively in terms of the threat that they have, I think how tough it is. But there is just this overwhelming belief that we will win.

In the champions league our players seem to step up to a completely different stratosphere of belief and confidence. They just do not seem to think that they will fail. It's amazing really. We never give up and just get stronger and stronger as the game goes on.

3-1 is my prediction.

Imagine being 3 - 0 up with 5 to go. We could actually enjoy the ending of a match. Liverpool can score their consolation in the 5 minute of injury time just to be safe. Very unspurs so doubt we’d be that lucky.

I don’t have the stats to hand so I could be making this up, but I’m sure Kane has scored in pretty much every game he’s come back from after injury. For that reason alone he should play.

But...... I wouldn’t be too saddened to see him starting on the bench. Lucas deserves to start really and barring injury, I can’t see Poch dropping Dele, Son or Eriksen. Lucas will be the one to make way if Kane is fit in my opinion.

To get the thread back on course though, my other half’s brother is a Liverpool supporter (but he’s a top bloke) and is fairly certain they’ll lose. He said even though they beat us twice, we should’ve had a pen at Wembley in the last minute and Sissoko should’ve scored to beat them at theirs. He can actually see what normal people can see. It’s so weird.

He's not what other Liverpool fans would class as a "real" fan

Most of mates are Liverpool fans, funny cause all of us are from london. Anyway they're always magnanimous in victory, whereas I'm an absolute snide bastard when we beat them. Can't help myself.

The problem with most Liverpool fans from my generation is that, outside of Merseyside, there was absolutely no reason to support them other than the fact they won everything at the time - they never had an amazing star player, they never played good football, they were the epitome of 'win at all costs', and all they did was win.........consequently they accrued the biggest most risible collection of glory hunting toss pots the world has ever known.

As I have said before there's probably a rabid 40% support for Liverpool and ditto Man United over here in Ireland.

Goes back to the 50/60/70/80's but with a small bit of levelling out across the board since the PL kicked in.

I've been to Anfield and Old Trafford more times than most of the twats over here.

What's more, those two sets of fans, but Liverpool especially, walk around dressed head to toe in Liverpool gear much like Klopp does.

In my store I get a lot of builders early morning and there's one in particular that wears his jersey, jacket and tracksuit 4 out of 5 days I reckon. He's about late 40s too. Not that there's anything wrong with it but I dont think grown men should dress head to toe in club gear outside of club staff.

He doesn't wear it if they've had a bad result though. I always mention it to him too. It winds him up so much. I love it.

I remember going to Milan for the CL game when crouch scored. I traveled in a spurs tracksuit and could see people in the business class lounge look at me like I was a player/scruffy ****.

It's not so bad out here in the boonies - farmers gonna wear farmer clothes but the nearest towns Wexford and New Ross must have some quaint local bye laws that make the Man U and Liv fans wear their replica stuff.
Usually wrapped around big bellies and stained with ketchup and other yuck.
