Didn't Redknapp say we weren't signing Chavez?

Thus making it a near certainty that he's already signed. Where the hell does he play by the way (Chavez...not Redknapp).

I'd be astounded if we got VdV. And I find it hard to believe we've been 'helping out' Real without any guaranteed reward. Surely if we'd been doing that with an eye to getting a deal then it would have been a done deal some time ago.

Does seem a bit suspect, but we can only hope! It wouldn't be astounding if we got him though, he has no squad number, he has been told that he can go, yet he is still there! That would suggest that interest in him may not be that great among the teams he would want to go to, it may well be that if we make a serious offer that he won't have much choice if he wants to play any football this side of January?

At the risk of upsetting Deselina greatly...is VdV actually any good?

I know he's a bit of a flat track bully, but will be cut it in the Premiership? Is he as good as Modric? I can't say I've seen enough of him to decide, but he's actually rarely impressed me on the few occasions I have seen him (mainly for Holland so maybe not a fair indication)

Not overly keen on any of the players we are being linked with today. VDV never really convinced me, that he has ability there is no doubt, but much like Kranjcar i've always thought he looks a bit milky, and will turn it on and off on a whim.

I am praying James doesn't happen

I'm not sure we have much choice in all honesty? We need that little something extra in Modric' absence although having said that I think we can cope without him in all but the toughest games, like our next 2 fixtures...

Agree re James, Gomes is alot better and younger!

Would love vdv but think he is probably the least likely of the players being mentioned to sign for us. This is due to the fact I'm sure he will have alot of cl clubs chasing his signiture. I would be reasonabley happy with niko but as I think I mentioned else where not too keen on petrov on permant deal due to injury problems. A short term loan would be good with him to cover modrics injury till christmas. But doubt city would let us have him on loan. Seriously Don't want David James ! Hope he he goes to stoke!

As always, cheers storts.

I just can't see VDV signing. Kranjcar is the most realistic. I just feel we may have left everything too late. Still no CM which is a worry for me.

I have to second this, I thought he was poor for Madrid and his attitude was terrible (granted I haven't seen much of him). Will he really cut it in the prem?

Hmm i can't help but feel if we do get VDV or Niko, they are not going to want to be second fiddle to modders when he is back. I think that if we get either expect them to be starting along side Wilson when modders is back. But for right now i guess they'll be shoved over on the left for the mean time.

IMHO i really wouldn't mind either of them in the center with Wilson. Niko is strong, technical and can sometimes put in a good tackle. VDV is quick, skillfull i can see him gliding through the center linking passes with modders and lennon.

I think what would happen is robbie might slowly ease away...i don't want that to happen but football is football and relationships are relationships...not going top believe the VDV thing at all, but it would, indeed, be some news, plus it would signal that arry can get what he wants from levy, who in turn would be agreeing that we can break top 4 this season providing we have a squad

Isn't Kranjcar the CM you want? I mean he is a CM predominently and today he had a few decent interceptions, runs like crazy and can both score and create. Takes free kicks better than Hudd, so we might get a screamer once a month.

At 6-8 million we can't do better than him and he is a very versatile bugger. With Corluka and Modric already here he would settle in nice and quick.

As for fans saying he doesn't do much - well with their team in the shitter is it really that difficult to accept that players may be... despirited let's call it.

I assume the Spanish window closes at midnight tonight in which case any deal for VDV will need to be tied up today!?

AS are reporting that Madrid will make a final attempt to sign Ribery today & VDV will leave only if they succeed.

Which will possibly mean we have plenty time to work out if we'll need a plan B (Kranjcar/Petrov?) if it doesn't come off.

Kranjar is the most realistic. One year left on contract, two ex-team mates Defoe and Crouch, and also Harry.

VDV is most likely to be used as a part of the deal of Ribery.
