We got a glimpse in the first 30 mins of what's to come.

Forza Spurs!
I hope not. The game was fun and crazy, but even those 30mins it was wild, with very little control. Some elements of conte teams were there, such as the attempt to play the ball quickly and directly, but it was a lot of directionless running around. Did not look like a Conte team.

What I think happened is the players we just very eager to impress Conte so they ended up, well, doing a lot of running but with very little clarity or patience.

This makes sense as Conte hasn't really had the chance to work with them. But you want see that in a month or so time. Conte teams are way more, well, structured than that. Nor do they tend to press as crazily as that.

With time, it'll come, but for today I enjoyed it, it was very entertaining but I hope to be entertained a bit less this weekend!

The first half showed the problems with our squad mentality and performance levels. We go 3-0 up within half an hour and the intensity and concentration drops off because the players think they’ve done something. If it was Liverpool, Man City, or Chelsea 3 up against weaker opposition they’d be gunning for goals 4 and 5. Our squad doesn’t have a winning mentality and lacks a killer instinct, hopefully Conte can rid that and kick out some of the shite players from the squad in the process.

This was the best outcome. Win the game but show our deficiencies from day 1
Precisely, we were 3 up after 30 minutes. Had we gone on to win 9 nil the manager would have learnt very little. We know we have problems so if they are not fixed we will always fall short.

I can't remember ever actually genuinely enjoying a Thursday night game we've had before tonight.

Players actually trying made Kane's lack of application all the more noticeable I thought. On Irish TV commentary his body language was being mentioned a lot by the co-commentator.
That's not what it looked like at the game. I felt Kane put in a shift.
Vitesse had the ball way too much for my liking, and thats 11v11.
Even at 10v9 they still had the ball too much. The introduction of winks and Tanguy made a huge difference.
Lucky to walk away with 3 points there.
Conte wanted the play switched to the wingbacks much faster, all I could see was that arm pointing frantically.
Looking forward to watching the post match interview when I'm back home.

They might be one of the dirtiest shithouse teams (over two legs) that I've seen us play in a long time TBH.

I think the club may be getting yet another bollocking for crowd trouble and a pitch invader (plus whoever Hugo kidnapped at the end) the new stadium seems very easy for pitch invaders for some reason and it's been on European nights every time IIRC.

Who was sitting next to Levy? It looked like Paul Kemsley to me at first glance but I don't think it was.

Saw some stuff I liked, some that's going to always be an issue until he gets a transfer in or two.

Romero is both great and very daft although I think better CB's either side of him or players switched on and tracking runners I don't think he makes one of those challenges.

Kane put in a solid shift and I don't want to dig him out as he does some things very well but for me Kane and Lucas have always had this problem where they tend to end up occupying the same space; e.g Lucas will nick the ball go on a run Kane will drop into a space where he's expect Lucas to pass or lay the ball off to receive a return ball and they end up getting in a mess surrounded by opponents as Kane's dragged a couple with him when he's dropped into space, I'm not going nuts it happens a lot.

Anyway odd as it sounds I'm glad we didn't root them 6-0 as it shows Conte firsthand issues that have been a problem for years now.

The first goal I'm not going to over analyse as I couldn't see what led to Dier getting beaten to the ball in the first place.
The second though was quite ridiculous, it was like everyone was really enjoying it getting cocky leading by 3 and trying to be far too fancy playing out of a tight area, I mean in the lead up to Lucas eventually giving the ball away I'm sure I saw Royal trying to juggle the ball off his his knee when he had plenty of time time let it drop and play an easier safer pass out of danger.

On the plus side I don't think anyone hide or not put in a shift, they looked balanced not just in the starting lineup but after his subs too, I'm still left baffled at how could Nuno not see it. Oh and I love Hugo I really hope he stays.

What happened with the pitch invaders? Will we get in trouble for that as I swear it’s happened a few times now?

Also what happened with the fights who started that?

And who was the kid Hugo was celebrating with at the end?

Such a crazy crazy evening

I read, "these fuckers need conditioning". Fitness and conditioning are very different things.

If winks was allowed to invade it legitimately everyone else should be fine... lol...

Tbh, he will have. Because even at 3-0 I told my group chat we could still lose this. A lot are talking about it as if our performance dropped after going 3-0 but it's not really that simple. We played extremely openly from the very beginning and pressing choatically and unstructuredly while taking risky passes that were sometimes not connecting.

In other words, yes we were 3-0 up but the game was wide open, we were always vulnerable. After moving to a 3-5-1 we actually started to look comfortable even with 10 men , and for me that was our best period.

Now I haven't seen us play like this for a very long time, possibly similar to the Everton game last season?

But this is an unusual performance that you cant really take much from as it was just players being super hyped without composure. The composure and understanding of the system will come.

So I dont buy that players relaxed and got complacent after being 3-0 up. I think the opposite is true. I think after going 3-0 upped we were still way too pumped up when we just needed to be calmer, more relaxed, and even take the foot off the gas a little bit.

I know it's better to struggle and learn more but both Jose and conte start with 3-2 wins after 3nil leads... uncanny really but I enjoyed tonight, lots of work to do but nice to feel everyone is behind it... coys

Watching the replay. That first yellow against Romero is never ever a foul let alone a card. Fucking hell
Yeah but he was idiotic on the second. But even before the second he was risking. Pushing to win the ball too often. The whole team was doing that too much. Trying to win the ball back with aggression rather than just waiting for the ball to come back to you (something most Conte sides do, Conte sides press on occasion but they aren't known for being a heavy pressing side, or even a side built on quick turnovers)

I'm not too worried about it moving forward, because he was one of many players who were just way to hyped up about this game, when a bit of calm was needed. It was just one of those crazy games, they happen, every blue moon, to every team.

I wouldn't disagree with that but my point was the first is NEVER a foul - let alone a card. It's just an awful awful mistake by the referee.

Tbf the same ref gave a very soft foul to Kane that led to their CB getting the first of his two yellows. The difference was there was at least a tiny case to be made that there was a foul - and the yellow was for dissent so deserved.

But that first yellow for Romero is a hideous mistake. Awful refereeing.

Yeah I agree the ref was shit. He also seemed very annoyed whenever we tried taking a quick free kick. Like, you wait for my whistle guys. The reality though is when we were down to 10 it played into our hands a bit. Also Kane really took the piss doing his best winning cheap free kicks shtick in the second half.

It's not, but if we finish second then we're going to have to take the first team to an away leg in the extra round anyway. We've got to go strong in a midweek match whatever happens. Rather it be against Mura (where, lets be honest, we should comfortably win 8-5) than (eg) Fenerbahce, or Marseille in the R32.
This was a must win, same with the next two. For me this is more important than the Prem. We can win this, we can't win that.
Nuno got it all wrong. Lost at Arnhem in order to... Lose at West Ham
A bridge too far indeed

Fair comments, but once again it was a set piece that changed the momentum
I wouldnt have picked Dier for this game, ditto Everton
Sanchez Romero Rodon /Davies
