Getting to be a bit of a joke now, luckily no "big" nation has been effected so it will just be glossed over but in a World Cup teams losing out due to a cancelled match is bullshit.

Really hope Scotland are ok. Would be absolutely gutted for them if the japan game doesn’t go ahead.

Would be a fucking joke and am in total agreement to you, I am all for taking sport all over the world and "celebrating it" but not to the detriment of the game itself. It wouldn't surprise me one bit if the Scotland Japan game was "cancelled" and not just for weather reasons.

Absolute farce. They should just relocate or postpone the games. Obviously that still wouldn't be ideal but just not playing them at all is ridiculous for all kinds of reasons

NZ Italy is also off, so any advantage England get won't exist when, and a big IF, they play each other.

By the time the Japan / Scotland game is due the typhoon should be a cat 1 and, more to the point, about 600 miles or so to the north. On that basis the match should go ahead, but I guess that depends on what it does to Tokyo on Saturday.

I'll be giving them exactly the same amount of support as they'd give us if the roles were reversed.

I can say, hand on heart, and as much dislike I have towards the England rugby team and generally how much joy I get from them suffering, that if England got sent home due to games being cancelled I’d think it was an absolute disgrace and it would almost render the whole tournament pointless in my eyes.

I hear ya, though. However I don’t think genuine Scottish rugby fans would revel in it if the roles were reversed. Yes, some banter and stuff initially but you’ve got to feel sympathy for any team in that situation.

Was just mucking about really. I support England first, any home nation second and any northern hemisphere against southern. I do however believe that if ISIS had a rugby team, most Scots would support them against England.

That’s good news. Hopefully it goes ahead, obviously. World Rugby just simply have to reschedule it and play it somewhere else if it can’t be played in Tokyo. No excuses. I’ll be writing Bill Beaumont a very stern letter otherwise.

Almost an impossible situation to comment on without having any understanding of the logistics of it all.

Obviously safety of everyone involved has to take precedence, so I think calling any decisions made 'a joke' or 'a farce' is probably a bit unfair in the circumstances.

I'd have liked it if they could have found locations for the games and played them behind closed doors if that helped with the issues of getting fans around. But assuming that isn't possible (for whatever reason) I'm not sure what other options they'd have?

You can't postpone games and push the whole tournament back. To start with presumably there's no guarantee the typhoon actually buggers off in that period, and you're then messing up the entire rest of the tournament which surely isn't the right answer.

Obviously it's crap for Italy who are going home without getting their very slim chance at qualification. Similarly it would be cruel on Scotland if it happened to them. I'm fairly certain they'll have looked at all of the options before taking the decision to cancel matches though.

You’re right, of course. But I’ll be very interested to hear the insurmountable logistical problems in World Rugby’s statement if they do cancel the Scotland game.

For me, you take the punt that the Typhoon fucks off in an acceptable time period but I guess they’ve got the meteorological experts and as you rightly say, without all the info, it’s hard to say.

latest is that the typhoon will be 600 miles north of Tokyo / Yokohama by time Japan - Scotland game starts so hopefully that will go ahead even if no fans in the stadium

Poor Italy too. They weren’t going to win but it potentially could have been a great game which is a shame in itself and they don’t get many opportunities to play NZ (especially on the biggest stage of them all) often and they need games like this (even if they get done by 50 points)

I'm not sure typhoons are the sort of things you 'take a punt on'.

They are very much in the 'get away from them and really sport doesn't matter that much' category for me.

It isn't really taking a punt. As I posted above and @tototoner confirmed, the typhoon is predicted to be about 600 miles north of Tokyo and they rarely get these things wrong so near to the event

The penultimate dot is 12.00 pm Saturday (Cat 2 typhoon) and the last is a day later (tropical storm).

It depends what it's done to Yokohama on the way through. If there's no power or traffic can't move then it'll presumably be off.

I completely forgot about him in all the excitement. Has any more stuff come to light as to what he was betting on?
