I think with Rooney it's also been a bit of a case of the Birmingham owners admitting they aren't football people so to compensate they've gone for the footballiest football person they could get their hands on to try to show fans that they really understand football.

Those situations usually backfire spectacularly because they're trying far too hard to prove they know football.
But they employed Garry Cook who was CEO at City immediately post-takeover.
So they had someone with football experience; whether he was involved in the Rooney decision, who knows. He may have been told it’s a done deal - not what I’d want if I were CEO but hey.

Appointing Rooney would’ve been daft were they 6th from bottom, the fact they did it when 6th from top is one of the most stupid decisions ever. And now they’ve got to pay up his 3.5 year contract! Hilarious

No news about that.

Favourite is Steve Cooper, which would actually be a really good appointment.

Did he actually want those signings though ?
Sure I heard that he only wanted two or three signings in the summer, then look what happened.
That's probably part of the reason he fell out with the board.

Rooney's level of intelligence has nothing to do with him being sacked, he is just a poor manager.
Kinda linked tbh

I think Rooney went in there and decided to change the way they were playing.

That shows a lack of intelligence to understand the situation

They didn't need anything ripping up. Players were on form and probably had only just had Eustace's system drilled into them.

Rooney went in like a ego maniac and changed everything and then started complaining about players desire and pride.

That shows a lack of intelligence on many levels.

Rooney might have been a good
manager if tactical systems were limited, but you can’t be thick as a football manager anymore.

Imagine someone like Saka trying to tell you what to do at work 🌝

Rooney should be a striker coach

Top managers know how teams work. Top players expect everything handed to them on a plate without giving much thought to how that happens. The best managers can build something out of nothing but the top players have little or no idea how to do that.

Hardly surprising giving how he was digging the players out immediately.

He almost literally came straight from the playing side of a dressing room, he knows exactly how comments like those he made go down. Just an unbelievably dumb thing to do.
