So this new franchise starts this friday afternoon, I've been having a long chat with a work colleague about it and am now really looking forward to this supposed ROGUE league.

I've done a bit of research on it and the teams, which consist of 8 franchises which are as follows:

Bangalore Royal Challengers
Deecan Chargers
Chennai SuperKings
Delhi Daredevils
Kings 11 Punjab
Kolkatta Knight Riders
Mumbai Indians
Rajasthan Royals.

The league will be a 20-20 cricket format which will be played out through the rest of April up to the beginning June.

I've gone for Kolkatta Knight Riders as the team i'll be following.

Anyone else gonna be watching this on Setanta?

This is gonna be like the super league of world cricket, all the worlds top cricketers apart from the English at the moment (apart from Mascarenhas).

Just saw on ITV that the ecb is letting our players compete?

Players centrally-contracted won't be playing in the IPL this year or the next according to the ECB.

There is talk that the ECB and IPL will be setting up an English Premier League as a compromise.

I think its a tail of the green eyed monster, the ECB are just jealous that the ICB have managed to pull this off, fair play to them, I think this league is gonna be brilliant, I can't wait to see the first game friday, which is between Bangalore and Kolkata, i'm gonna foloow kolkata, they have Akhtar, Ganguly, Gayle, Hussey, Sharma, Mccullum and Ponting

I have to admit I back the ECB on this. I don't like how the IPL clashes with international matches.

Daniel Vettori has opted to play in the IPL instead of playing for New Zealand, so now they need a new captain whilst Vettori is away.

The ICC have to make sure that the IPL doesn't clash with the international fixtures in the future otherwise international cricket will get damaged.

Cricket is already struggling in the Caribbean. How is a second string West Indies side playing a second string England team going to encourage children to take up the sport?

The same argument can be applied to Premier League Football tho... that hasn't exactly harmed world football has it? If properly managed, this took take Cricket up a notch on the world sport scale

But international football is given first priority over league football. Every team has to release their players so they can represent their country.

The IPL isn't going to break into new countries like the Premier League has. Cricket has such a small fan base in places like the USA that its going to take more than live TV coverage to take it up a notch.

If increasing the appeal of cricket to the rest of the world is the aim then they should do what the IRB have been doing for years with the rugby 7s. Rugby is one of the fastest growing sports in the world because the IRB are taking the game to countries like the USA, China, etc., so people are seeing it first hand and as a result taking up an interest in the sport.

The IPL is only going to appeal to current cricket fans, like us.

The original 20/20 tournaments in England and South Africa were a success because they displayed the sport to people who would normally watch football or rugby instead. That won't happen with the IPL because cricket is already the number one sport in India.

Balls to it being on Setanta :( Dunno if I want to shell the monies out at this stage of footie season. Could really see myself getting into this though, don't usually get bothered by cricket at a county level unless it's 20/20 or finals, but this seems a fantastic idea, all star cricket. I remember reading through the lineup's for the teams when they had the draft, there were a few tasty looking teams

You can have too much of a good thing and the IPL & ICL is overload of Twenty20 in my opinion. Twenty over cricket was a great concept and is a good, loveable form of the game, but its attractivenss to commercialism is being exploited so much that it will kill it, or another form of the game, unfortunately.

That was simply WOW by Mccullum. To score 158* in a 50 over match is incredible but to score it in 20 over match. WOW

Btw it's streamed live on the official website
