The Great Clearout

In my own opinion, if Spurs are going to start clearing out players the sooner the better. The fact is we need to sell to buy but any players that come in take time to settle. So if Spurs start clearing out the players that are surplus and have a minimum impact on the first team. Then when the end of the season comes we will be ready to start signing players and know what we need because there will be more chances for youngsters.

Like most of you most Transfer Windows I am demanding for us to sign players but that is reactionary with no actual thought just wanting to sign players and quite often I want us to sign players who I know nothing about.

My view is it is time for Spurs to change the way we do things, we throw away this transfer window and plan properly for the next and then we will have two months for the players to settle before the season starts.

Agree, time to do that is in the summer. Can't afford to be short of bodies with half a season left, and conversely can't afford to have players getting used to the team come crunch time.

Or bring someone in now, who has seven months to settle before the season starts

The prevailing wisdom is that buying players in the January transfer window is too expensive. If this is the case it must mean it is also the best time to sell those deemed surplus to requirements. They are not going to increase in value sitting on our bench or turning out for the reserves so saying adios ASAP means we both get a better price and save on wages.

The argument against this is some players may possibly have a role in the event of injuries to our 1st choice players. This may be true in one or two areas where our squad is not so deep but this will rarely be the case. Many of our players are versatile enough to cover alternative positions and we have good youth team players who's career may well benefit greatly from the experience of playing in the 1st team.

Jan transfer window is all about shoring up the positions you're weak in for the rest of the season... through injury/form/suspension etc.

It works the same with all clubs. If we have the sense to not buy in January, other clubs will do the same and this window will turn out to be the big clearout that never was.

If we had less players we would still be in the FA Cup IMO. Trying to keep bit part players happy by giving them games in the cup games has held up the advancement of youth as well. Less is more. Kaboul and Capoue could leave without a replacement. We have nippy players waiting to fill Lennon's boots as well.

and exactly why we should get a striker in if we can get someone off the wage bill, because if Kane gets injured we are screwed.

I don't think people are gonna get the mythical clear out in the summer that many believe and it'll be a lot of last minute stuff too. We might want to sell but we still need buyers to meet our and our players terms

I think the clearout will be no where as big as people believe or hope. Maybe 3-4 will go and 2-3 will come in. Its hards to move players one and that been proven the last few windows.

There won't be any big clearout.. sell too many players too soon and other clubs will hold you to ransom for the players you want.

It's a game of Chess these days.
