We don't necessarily need to spend big sums of money to bring in the right player - in fact, most times we do spend big it's a total disaster. Hopefully we can get another deal or two like Bentancur.

I think this window is when i can see us focussing a lot on players with little time left on their contract. For example, Bastoni, Zaniolo N’Dicka and Skrinnier all of which have been on our radar in the past have contracts running out this coming summer or in 24. I would absolutely love us to go a get someone like Mudryk but i don't see it happening for the fee thats being quoted. But if you actually look down the list of players who's contracts are running beyond those already linked to us in the past there are some really interesting names. I certainly think we could bring in a number of quality players for relatively little if we focus on that market.

If Conte does not commit before then we are signing none of these players.

It's as much Paratici's call, as it is Conte's.

If Conte were to leave, its Paratici who will be picking the successor - and that is ideally what we want - some continuity from a roster composition standpoint.

cabinessence added: He didn't say there wouldn't be ANY signings. Just that it probably wouldn't be big money signings circa £50m. DL knows they have to make some signings. Conte's contract runs to summer 23 with a one year extension that both sides have to agree to.

That's the first we have seen "both sides have to agree to" - but it does not really change anything. Conte would always walk if he felt he could not win.

This is what I'm still going on, not to say there won't be discussions between now and end of season.

All parties have already agreed to this, that's why it's part of his contract already. As I say I don't think it would be the ideal way to proceed but it's not the doom an gloom of him being out of contract in the Summer some are playing on. That extra year was agreed by both parties because of the size of contract financially giving the club a get out if things went horribly wrong it wouldn't cost 4 years salary at £15mil to move him on. Conte being the principled man he is completely agreed with this.

I am sure there is a mutual option to extend the contract another year - but, if either side wants out, there is no extra year.

In many ways the option is useless - because, if Spurs and Conte agree to extend - then it makes much more sense to extend beyond the year. Otherwise, you spend all of next season speculating about Conte leaving at the end of the year.

Oh boy, Levy is backed into the corner. He is probably so happy that the fans have become rather toxic of late. Gives him an easy out

He knew what he was getting with Conte.

Let's see , no way do we not strengthen In January.

This is what makes me think things are reasonably on course at the mo.

It's quite rare for Conte to be asking for patience and more time etc.

Makes me more and more convinced we'll see a different Tottenham in the second half of the season etc.

We've seen signs of it at times already to be honest. ?

But there is no point getting cheaper stop gaps, better off getting one top player than 3 medium players to fill the gaps.

We did get Bentancur for an incredible fee.

I think we will look for signings similar to that. 20-30m types.

Also, its worth remembering that FP is very good at getting loan deals prior to purchasing so he may get 1 like that too.

I took the message as don't expect us to sign players like Gvardiol or Hakimi.

Important to remember that if Conte felt he wasn't being back he would be showing visible signs of frustration and as others have said not be asking for patience.

They will get him what he needs or close enough to keep him happy

This is trotted out every window on our end.
If anything, our transfer strategy has proven that chucking money at signings is far from any type of guarantee they'll be even decent signings.
What signing over 30m bar Romero (who's seemingly gone down a level since becoming permanent) has worked out for us so far in contrast to buys in the 15-30m bracket these last 10 years?

Why do people care so much about transfer fees when it's quite evident that it has little to do with the success of a transfer?
What worked for us in the past was buying smart and what will continue working for us in the future is buying smart.

You're right I shouldn't have stated "Cheaper".

Yep. A lot of fans don’t appear to analyse how the market actually works. No sense of understanding of availability and obtainability.

Last January we had Vlahovic, Traore and Diaz as available targets but bigger clubs came in for them. Us paying more, was irrelevant.

We ended up with Kulu and Bentancur who have been excellent.

Paratici needs to just continue doing what he is doing.

Always confused by the one year extension that both sides have to agree to bit. How is that different to having no option at all?
