Dragon:

As I’ve discussed there were five potential strikers

3 of the 5 are king , Ings and Chris’s wood

a week ago ings was fav as we looked like Tanguy may go and we would have the money for ings

today I’d say it’s Chris wood but lazio are in heavily

there has now been progress on a permanent sale of foyth to another pl club , if we can shift him and Serge by mid week it will probably pay for the next signing
Wait.

Chris's wood?

I'm sure it's impressive, but I'm not sure it's a 15 goal a season stonker... I mean striker.

Would rather a loan for Foyth as I still really rate him and think he'd increase his value but if we need the money now and he's not in Jose's plans then so be it.

Would be v surprised with Ings, he'd surely cost a ton and not sure he'd be happy not starting regularly with the Euros coming up.

Wood would be an underrated signing. 14 in 32 for a v defensive Burnley last season.

If we had a choice it would be Ings all day long, but he'll be way too expensive, north of 50 million...hence the if we sell Ndombele caveat.

The other two much more realistic.

What I don’t get is:

Ings - favourite and would cost circa £50m. He’s the same age as Wilson and has also had 2 horrific knee injuries and other bad injuries. Yet as per ITK we’re hearing no one will pay £25m for Wilson due to his injury history. So why are we prepared to pay £50m for Ings when they’re in the same boat? I know Ings is a bigger threat but he’s also 1 more twist or bad tackle away from a career ending injury.

Wood - an excellent target man, affordable.

King - a work horse, very quick and in the last year of his contract.

Given we need to strengthen elsewhere surely it would make sense to prioritise King or Wood over Ings? You’re talking saving up to £30m and being able to utilise it elsewhere.

Only way I see Josh King happening is if Bournemouth come off the happy pill with what they think they can get for him. Told that we are still talking to Ajax. We have very strong relationship with them. They fancy Sess on loan is true.

EDIT: Ajax interest in our talks is not just one player

I think Ings has come back stronger from those injuries than Wilson.

And he's looking robust and had an incredible season, simply a level above Wilson.

He showed a lot of determination to come back from those injuries and hit these levels.

Not only that, his work rate is immense.

Overall it says a lot about his character and attitude.

If I were Southampton I'd be looking a huge figure.

Surely it would be loan with a view to buy though, can’t see Ajax happily developing our player for us that just isn’t their model...

Sess on loan sounds sensible yet not. Sensible in that he needs the game time, not in that we seem to have a spot in the squad for him right now. Again, fixture congestion will be a thing.

I guess as development goes, a year in the Eredivisie playing more often than not good.

I’m not doubting his quality, determination and work ethic and I agree it would take a hefty sum for Southampton to let him go. Given the current financial climate and his injury record, he’s a £50m risk we simply cannot afford to take.

Well he's played a lot this season and come through it...but its probably moot anyway.

Taking price out of it I would prefer King, Wilson and Wood in that order. But Wilson would cost the most, although I can see Burnley asking for circa 30m for Wood. King I don't know what Bournemouth would demand as he's got just a year left with them.

Also playing for Ajax, with their football DNA running through the club, can only be a good thing for Sessegnon. He could learn an awful lot there.

Why not? All of the decent players they develop get picked off anyway. As long as they dominate the Dutch League and make CL consistently they're at their optimum level.

Not going to go into guessing games considering the thread but Ajax has some other obvious names besides VDB that we could be interested in.

Regarding the striker ITK, I'd be happy with Wood (fnar fnar). Not a fashionable player, but he knows how to put the ball in the back of the net.
