Soaking wet from the game. Have to say that we had our fair chance to win the game if Defoe or Adebayor had put away their chances but the moment Sunderland got their goal, we lost our way and was way too open.

Pitch was poor and did not help but that is the same for Sunderland so not an excuse and I felt that some players did not seem bothered enough. Rose seemed fine at times and made some good runs but also gets caught out easily while Walker is Walker. Think our midfield was slightly slow to react today and will be great if Holtby or Chadli had played today.

Great atmosphere sitting with fellow Spurs fans and I just wished they had better merchandise available beyond UA training gear and dear old chirby soft toy. :)

Although only a friendly I am concerned about the amount of goals we are conceding at the moment winning breeds confidence where as letting in goals and losing does the opposite.
Lets hope we get it sorted quick as last season we were shit at times at the back.

Obviously would've been nice to win, and maybe win the tournament, but as far as friendly results go, City and United have both lost friendlies already and I doubt they'll be so poor in the league. Have to remember the poor conditions, delayed kick off, shorter match length and numerous main players not being involved, as well as the two new signings not featuring. Still think Espanyol (and maybe Monaco) will be the indication as to how we'll fair from the start of the season.

Was sad to hear about Jan going off injured, hope the commentator on Talksport is right and it is just 2-3 weeks and nothing more severe.

Numerous posts within seconds of kick off chastising Dawson for hoofing it when playing on a waterlogged pitch?

Errr what.

People have it in for the likes of Dawson and Defoe yet they think Dempsey is the best thing since sliced bread

As the Americans say....go figure

we've only conceded four in the last three months!:)
Just a training game really conditions much better suited to sunderland than us but no sweat I'm happy being three weeks off ready three weeks before the season. Not at all confident we'll see Verts again this side of Christmas though.

Ha yes our defence has been good since may but verts injury doesnt sound good I haven't seen it as was working but maybe we may need cover there.

I agree that we're normally all over the place in pre-season. But do our closest rivals have such results/pre-season as we do? Is it again us lacking that winning mentality/will to win everytime we set foot on the pitch no matter what the game etc?

Not particularly my opinion...open question...just throwing it out there...

Pre-season results don't bother me in the slightest. 2008-9 we had a fantastic pre-season finishing with a 5-0 win against Roma. Then followed 2 points from 8 games...

The only thing that has concerned me so far, saw a bit of the game live and watching the low-lights now. @spursofficial announced that we were playing 4-3-3.

Yet again, it's a bastard 4-4-2 with Dempsey up front with Adebayor.

Yeah I agree, then was even more 4-4-2 when Defoe came on, as Adebayor took up the 'No.10 role'.

We played a 4-3-3 with Dempsey, Ade and Lennon as the 3 up top apparently. :cautious:

With Ade at the top it just won't ever be a 4-3-3, he drops back too much. Don't get me wrong, he did well in the game earlier, but just doesn't provide enough bite up front as a striker. I keep being told Dempsey used to play as a left wing forward for Fulham (didn't watch them so don't know), but for some reason I never see him try to get our wide for us. He's always looking to play behind the striker. Lennon, unfortunately, just can't do the wing forward role either.

I didn't see the game but hopefully it doesn't mean we're going to be playing 4-4-2 throughout the season. Quite a few of the players who started the game are ones we're looking at selling, apparently.

Can't be assed to read through all comments so sorry if repeating. Townsend summed up in the mins he was on why he'll struggle to make it here. Great at beating his man, never gets his head up, nearly always chooses wrong option.

Give him a few months of training with AVB and a verbal battering from his team and he will cut it out.

I'm sure at QPR he took the "run about a bit" quite literally but that won't fly here. There is a player there no doubt.

We're usually shit during preseason, not too worried yet.

Apart from the season we had signed Bent, Gio and Modric. We were immense pre-season, then awful from August.
Hopefully an omen of better times ahead!

Better decision making comes with greater experience and more games played. At least he made a 40 yard run and beat a couple of men. That was of more note than Lennon (particularly), Dempsey, Defoe and others made the whole game. I'd love to know what there excuses were.
