I get a disagree for saying it was piss poor, this is a squad game no? Yes we had a lot of squad players some did ok, Ade had a decent match, but Sunderland simply wanted to win it more. If the players were put in the shop window I don't think many have done much to increase their chances of a move.

25 Lloris
05 Vertonghen
20 Dawson
28 Walker
32 Assou-Ekotto (Sigurdsson - 83' )
02 Dempsey (Defoe - 73' )
06 Huddlestone
07 Lennon
08 Parker (Dembele - 64' )
11 Bale
10 Adebayor

This was the side that played v Sunderland in the last game of the season. Players in bold started today.

That's quite interesting. A lot of the personnel is the same. We completely bossed Sunderland in that game and yet Sunderland looked better today. The conditions are part of the reason as well as their superior fitness, but perhaps also, their new signings will prove to be astute purchases. Cabral certainly put himself about and gave us little time on the ball, and Altidore gave them a real outlet upfront and looked to link up well with the excellent Sessegnon. Wes Brown also played well.

Still wouldn't take much from the game. The pitch wouldn't allow us to pass and our pace was negated too as well as the ability to dribble. Take away our ability to pass the ball and find space and we're half the team we should be.

I thought we actually didn't do too bad, they were trying to hit us on the break and it worked well to be fair

Once Defoe was on we looked much more dynamic up front, Friedel pulled off a couple of great saves and I thought Ade actually had a decent game

Commentators were saying not as bad as first thought and that AVB even asked him if he wanted to come back on!

Positives? Rose was good in phases, impressed with his crossing.

BTW - until we get MRI results, I am still worried -- remember Sandro left the field under his own power,.... then FLABAMM!! MRI show knee requires surgery

AVB after the game:

It seems like he twisted his ankle, it could be sprained ankle ligaments," Villas-Boas told Sky Sports News. "Hopefully there is not too much damage as he has a good range of movement still, but it is swollen a bit.

"We hope it is nothing very serious, the MRI scan is positive and he'll be back for the start of the season."

We looked the same as we did for the majority of last season imo.

Extremely vulnerable at the back to players getting in behind our dodgy high line, awful at defending set pieces and very average on the ball(pitch didn't help).

We will see how it goes but big improvements are needed this season from last, we simply cannot continue to rely on Bale scoring from 30 yards whilst Hugo cleans up the defensive mess.

I'm not sure when Kaboul is going to get involved but with news of Jan's injury, looks like at Palace away we could line up with an all English back line?

Walker, Dawson, Caulker, Rose.

No way would they risk half fit players on a pitch like that so glad to see Kaboul and Bale nowhere near the game. Decent run out but not indicative of anything. Can't even gauge our progress v Sunderland from a game like that but we have a hell of a lot of quality to come into our side (bale, Dembele, paulinho, sandro, Holtby, chadli, Kaboul etc.)

Oh and last time (the only time) we played South China in Preseason was also the last time (and only time) we qualified for CL. We lost that game 2-0 and many people were worried we'd go on to have a bad season.

Would rather play south china than city.

Hope Carroll gets some more game time and Bale, Sandro, Kaboul, BAE, Lloris and Holtby can get a runout

We will know a hell of a lot more in terms of injuries during our two "glamour" friendlies

Numerous posts within seconds of kick off chastising Dawson for hoofing it when playing on a waterlogged pitch?

Errr what.
