Didn’t watch the game, but it sounds like the score line was a little flattering and a better team could have punished at at times.

It’s clear Conte has stabilised things and I’m sure performances will slowly improve.

However, worth bearing in mind the 4 league games we’ve played under him have all been against struggling sides, with 3 of them at home.

Let’s see where we are after Brighton and Leicester away before we can safely say we’ve turned a corner.
I think getting a few basic things right is turning a corner. Yes, he’s getting a good run of fixtures to settle in, but I wouldn’t trust us to not slip up on these fixtures over the last few years. I’m gonna have a moment to take a breath here and say we did ok today.

Who’d have thought that!?

Especially v Everton/Leeds/Brentford & Norwich, who, let’s face it cannot hit a fucking barn door…

Let’s hope we can get 2/3 in when the window opens. The squad is crying out for some fresh legs & new ideas
Before today Everton, Brentford and Leeds had scored more goals than us and we were leaking goals. We also weren't shooting.
Bit of credit where its due I think.
Yes we need new better players but everyone knows that.

Sessegnon’s best performance for us. Looked committed, confident and showed good bits of quality. Hopefully he takes his chance to stake a claim for regular minutes if Regi is out for an extended period.

That maybe true but look at west ham apart from rice no one is outstanding but good management and organisational structure has them in the shake up for fourth.
If we do bring in a couple during January and continue to improve under Conte we could find ourselves doing better than we thought.
I think you have to give more credit to Antonio, Bowen and Soucek at least

It’s simple. None of the players is anything like as bad as the fans think. Most of them are really very good and a few are top class. But they all need good management and a proper fitness programme and they’ve had neither for two years.

It’s a team game. If the team is malfunctioning, the individual players will look much worse than they are.

I’ve never gone along with the “whole squad needs an overhaul” script on here. Conte will show you why. It’s a team game.
Most of them are really very good?

Would you like to expand on that and what is your interpretation of 'really very good'?

It’s unbelievable to see Davies playing at this level, he seems a completely different player since Conte arrival
Not unbelievable to me, a long standing Davies fan, who has defended him against many unfair attacks
LCB is perfect for him, and I think Rodon can prosper too alongside.
But for sure stick with Dier ATM

I said nothing about not needing new players. I said that players we already have are individually very good, but have not been functioning as a team.

We need a major improvement in advanced/creative midfield, as I think everyone agrees. In Ndombele, we signed a young lynchpin for that role for years to come and he just hasn't delivered, under five managers. So we need at least one player to give us what Eriksen provided.

Every other position on the pitch is occupied either by a player who is amply good enough or a young player, new to the league, with a high ceiling - if they are properly managed and coordinated.

I think you'll find that, if we sign that key creative player, the whole team will start to function better and the individual players will shine more brightly.

People focus far too much on individuals. I always write first about the team, only then about the quality of individual players.

Soucek has formed a good partnership with rice, and as for Antonio he is a converted RB FFS let's be honest if they were at spurs most of them would be average but at WHU where the expectations are lower they have found their level.

The large majority of our squad are established internationals for major countries. In terms of footballing quality and talent, really the only substandard player is Doherty. Even Winks was a talented player with a lovely passing touch until injury and loss of confidence ruined his career.

Two other players have apparently incurable mentality/attitude issues: Dele and Ndombele. Bags of talent that is unrealised not because of management failings, but because of their own lack of focus and professionalism.

When I say "really very good", I mean that the others could all play for any side in the top half of any league in Europe. All of them. No exceptions but the ones I mentioned.

They haven't shown that in the past two years. That's been down to poor fitness and ill-advised management, not ability.

Another thought: it was only a few weeks ago that fans here and commentators elsewhere were confidently insisting that the problem with Spurs was that only Kane and Son could score goals.

Since then we've had goals in the league from Højbjerg, Reguilon, not-Davies, Lucas and Sanchez. And two from Son and none from Kane.

Those triangles starting appear, players are getting used to new tactics (but also we played Norwich).

Soucek is my next door neighbour but one. When we play wet spam next I’ll let his tyres down so he misses the coach ???
