What we learn:

The squad is ridiculous. Højbjerg is indispensable, although it was an excellent cameo from Sissoko. We see why Vinicius is not just a target man and why he got a pile of assists in Portugal - class player in the making. Winks was fine, despite all the customary whinging. Davies can play central defence with aplomb. Hart is still a capable goalkeeper. Son will score. Bale still has a way to go. Reguilon is a star. Doherty is not settling as well as the other new players - he sets up one good situation after another and wastes them all. It was one of Lucas' unplayable nights - how long before we get another?

LASK aren't rubbish. We coped well with a decent team with our second 11.

Really happy for Clarke finally getting his debut, after he’d been pretty much forgotten about.

It’s clear Jose sees something in him, and if he comes good over the next year or two he could even be an HG replacement for Lamela or Lucas when one of them inevitably moves on.

Jose seems to want to invert him, whereas all the footage I saw of him at Leeds was as a traditional winger on the right.

Good, professional and all that jazz. I do think we need to learn to take our chances a little bit more, but very happy.

On another note, Foyth made his debut in what seemed a bonkers 5-3 Villarreal win. He scored a wonderful header to put them 3-2 up and then contributed with a fine assist for the final goal. So seemed promising, though can't say much about the defending.

This has definitely finished right? I'm still a bit on edge. Can still see this going either way TBH.

One of the things that impressed me the most today was our composure on the ball and the way we were playing out of their press. The new Mou-rondo seems to be doing the trick! I’ve seen our press resistance as one of our weaknesses for a long time and I like that we seem to be really improving on it

Vinicius looks a player. You can tell straight away. He was making really clever runs and has a good eye for an assist. I actually think he'll play really well with Kane. Loads of positives to take from tonight. I'm liking Europe league more than I thought I would. Its a great way to get confidence back after a shit end to the last league game.

Loving the fact that we're scoring goals for fun. Much easier for a free-scoring team to work harder and learn to defend than it is for a solid defensive team to learn how to score. Getting there.
Agree - and we’re still wasteful. Imagine how many we can score once the players are all on the same wavelength.

We took off Bale, Hojbjerg and Lamela and brought on Alli, Sissoko and Son not to mention Lo Celso and young Jack Clarke and we left Hugo, Alderwiereld, Ndombele and Kane on the bench.
Christ we've got some squad these days.

How the fuck we haven't had backup for Kane for so many seasons is absolutely criminal. You can blame Levy for not getting the signings over the line but Poch should have made it known that it wasn't acceptable. It went on for much too long.

This squad is exceptional. Talent throughout and genuine strength in depth. Gonna be a good year.

You mean since last year when we had Llorente :p

Wait till he misses a sitter and then most on here will be labelling him the next Andy Booth.

I think he’ll get cut some slack after such a solid debut.

If I remember correctly, he’s one of those players that doesn’t let his head drop if he misses a decent chance or two, he just kicks on and looks for the next one. Very much like Kane.

It’s a shame some our own fans don’t have a similar mental strength hey?

I don't think we're winning the league after Sunday's result but all 3 of the cups are up for grabs and with this squad you're tempted to say top 4 alone would be a failure.

Feels like it'll never happen at this rate but I can't wait for the Son/Kane/Bale and Lo Celso/Hojbjerg/Ndombele lineups to all play together and hopefully click.
