Everton's midfield haven't played together yet so hopefully it still has kinks to work out and we can use that to our advantage.

If Mourinho is including him on the bench I take that as a good sign that is is working hard in training and knuckling down??

Pleased to see him there. Not sure he'd have made the bench if Lo Celso had been fit. Maybe Winks or Lamela would have been left out of the squad?

‪Excited for the new season and happy Doherty and Højbjerg starts but Lucas instead of Bergwijn in a new season is annoying ‬

It's not Lucas has earned his place at the end of last season, he's a better all round player that Steve at the moment and Jose has him in for his defensive contributions which are vital.

Yeah I think so. I can see him getting some minutes today, either to gain more control if we're trying to hold onto a lead or to add some creativity if we're behind.

Quite glad all three of James, Doucoure and Allan start with Ancellotti going for a 433 lineup as there should be plenty of space to exploit on the counter.

With the obvious absence of Lo Celso, this was always likely to be out starting 11 but eyes will definitely be on Alli for me in how he can try and cement his place in the first team.

Anyway, fresh season so not going to prejudice my views on certain players so let's hope for a solid team performance building on the positive end to our last campaign.

Should be a good game. James will be very dangerous for them

Famous last words but I not sure he will adapt quickly if at all to the premiership and I’m surprised to see him start today

Really? I think it has all of the makings of an absolute snorefest. I'm expecting only a slightly more exciting game than the last time we played them.

Mourinho's tenure is going to be decided by which of the following trios become mainstays in the team: Winks/Dele/Lucas vs. Bergwijn/Ndombele/Lo Celso. The squad needs the latter three players to become integral starters to have any chance of pushing the top teams in the league over the course of a season. The sample size in the last two years is clear: Dele/Winks/Lucas do not give you the creativity you need to score the 80+ goals to match the performance of the 2016-2017 squad. Mourinho does not have the luxury of time to slowly tinker with the line-up and constantly rotate. He needs his best players starting as many league matches as possible. Today's line-up is understandable given injuries, but if Mourinho persists with this front 6 for a lengthy period of time, we're going to be entirely reliant on Kane and Son to really be in top form to challenge the top teams.

Seems like a safe-ish lineup. Our two new outfield signings are in. Winks starts as GLC isn't fit and N'Dombele isn't gonna manage 90. Not 100% behind Moura starting but Bergwijn you'd imagine will be our first sub.
