Juande Ramos wants Tottenham to challenge the top four teams in the close future.

The Spaniard is happy with Spurs’ progress since he arrived and the former Sevilla boss claims that his short-time objectives have been reached.

Ramos enjoys Premier League football and its spirit, and claims that he is feeling less pressure than when he was in La Liga.
The tactician is happy that his team’s good displays in the cups have helped them to gain confidence to bounce back.

“Every team give their all to win, that's what makes the game more open so everybody enjoys it,” Ramos told Terra. “Apart from the team’s qualities, the engagement is always to the maximum.

“When I arrived the team was in a really bad situation. First we had to obtain better results and after to try and play the best possible.“We managed to do it step by step and today we are relaxed. We passed many stages in the cups, which stimulated the team to work because we have achieved the results we wanted.

“Today my objective is to build a winning team with the mentality to compete against Chelsea, Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool.

“It is my dream and my objective as well.”

Well that is a fucking surprise statement! I hope he realises, that in a year or two his job will depend on it, just like Jols did!

Isn't this just a case of 'stating the fucking obvious'?

Still nice to hear it from the man.

A quote from JJ regarding Ramos: " "I feel I am playing good football under our new gaffer (Ramos) and it is all going well.

"He has come in and changed the way which Tottenham have played, and that has changed my game as well.

"What he has done is help Tottenham to become a stronger unit, which has allowed the likes of myself and Aaron Lennon to go on and do what we do best - get in behind, create things and score goals.

"As a midfielder, you have to be able to defend at one end and create at the other end. That is the modern-day midfielder."

Jenas continued: "Sometimes, though, you can take on too many responsibilities as a midfielder - you want to tackle back and also create things. Then you have no energy.

"I have to pick out my runs more, when I can get back and just be more clever about my play.

"The energy is there, you just have to direct it into different areas."

Jenas needed this to be pointed out to him? The mind boggles!

seeing how the last 2 seasons this was our aim, its abit obvious we should be aiming up there once again after this season (as its going to take this season to build a team ramos wants and the bad start) lets just hope he can get us there, or else in afew seasons the dagers will be out waiting for him like Jol had

Why not? No team can ever be fully satisfied until they're the best in the league and europe. Our next step is break into the top four, but after that it will be to win the league.

Can't help thinking something got lost in translation there. Levy said the squad was good enough to challenge the top four in August. £20 million ago!

I was thinking about this the other day - the C Cup final is nice and everything, especially if we win, but the big stuff will be the league next year and getting into the Top-4. Keeping the Berbas of this world and attracting the Villas is almost ENTIRELY dependant on CC footie, and if we ever hope to beat the ManUs of this world on a regular basis we need to be firmly entrenched in the Top-4. So, there's no pressure this season now but that will change in August and we need to be ready for it. If Berba stays and we find a top-notch partner for JJ I wouldnt bet againt us doinng it, oh and we need a new goalie too of course, and for Ledders to get fit. COYS!

The difference between our aims the last 2 seasons and for next is that now we have a manager who has recent history of challenging for the top 4. As good as Jol was, breaking into the top four of one of the Major leagues/qualifiying for the CL was new to him.

Ramos has achieved that aswell as winning 3 European trophies (" Uefa cups / 1 Super cup) at the same time. This is not meant as a dig at Jol, will be forever grateful for the work he done, but we have a manager now who I am more convinced by when he says he wants to challenge the top 4.

I'm certain of the fact that if Ramos had taken over last summer we would have come into this season more prepared than we were and that we would be alot closer to the top 4 than we are now.

Thank you Jol for what you done but we have a new king of the manner now, one who will lead us to the CL in the near future!

I don't think Puskas ever defended. He was ultra good in scoring and creating scoring chances for others. The 1960 European Cup Final was a case in point when Real Madrid beat Eintract Frankfurt 7-3 with Di Stefano and Puskas bag all 7 goals between them and Puskas gifted the King of Madrid the 7th goal.

Good point. Ramos knows what it takes to break into the top 4 of an elite league, Jol didn't
