This game shows how important VAR is. Back in the day Newcastle would just have to have complained how they'd been shafted.

I think a yellow. He was taking him out, but i think in the end it was more like a trip at shin height. Studs down etc, contact area wasn't dangerous I guess.

After all this time, VAR has finally got all the big decisions right this game.

Thought the ref got it right live. No attempt to play the ball. He's lunged and made contact to the knee. Thought it was a brave and correct red card. No idea how thats a clear and obvious error.

That’s an orange card. Really high and late. I can see why people say yellow but I wouldnt sign a petition to have the red overruled

not high in the usual sense of driving into/through a player like other reds. It was just a clipping as he went past

Fair play to the referee for changing his mind and getting it right. I don’t like VAR at all but this was one of those things it’s best used for.

Cracking game

got to the right decision against the current rules there.

however, those sort of fouls i'd have no problem with being reds. cynical, and dangerous if KDB falls awkwardly as a result and injures himself.

Haaland scored after I said this but even when we dont play well he can drop deep. If Haaland played for a team who doesnt play well - he wouldnt offer anything - then again I dont think Haaland would ever play for a team who doesnt do well
I think Haaland is far more effective when he has space to run into. I'll be interested to see how Pep adapts his tactics, because obviously City are usually trying to break down a compact low block.

Yeah I guess the force wasn’t there. I remember Luke Shaw volleying one of ours a few years back as we were breaking away. That was much worse and only got a yellow so probably correct in comparison to that. But I do get why he gave a red initially in this case.

The way they outlet to ASM on their left flank, I don’t think we’ll see Doherty against Newcastle.
