There's been a lot written in various player threads RE: discipline, they're dumb as a bunch of rocks to sell them they're a liability etc.

So I'd thought I'd throw 5p in the jar, first there's been a huge increase in cards getting dished out this season, from the little I've seen as I refuse to fund Murdoch's empire and BT can do one too; I can't say if we're being treated worse/incompetently more so than any other club in the league. I can say the standard of officiating is at least as bad if not worse than before VAR was ever introduced.

To our players I'll pick the ones getting dug out;

Udogie, young player playing in a new league, new country in a entirely new role, deserves some slack.

Bissouma, playing a new role, being tasked with a different style entirely from Conte, can clearly play the role as shown by early season form, doesn't get a bye for new league or inexperience though.

As seen with other players recently going public with certain issues we don't know what or if it's issues off the pitch or form or a technical problem to be coached out of him be that technique or a tell that opponents now pick up on so he's easy to telegraph so draw him in for early fouls/bookings and have him walking a tightrope all match.

Romero; I think there's a certain amount that's just in him and to blunt that would be ineffective, the frustration is we've seen that he can play the tightrope extremely well but I think it's obvious he relies on players around him that he trusts 100% I think becoming a father helped but perhaps in a few games he's been hindered by some "late nights" or perhaps his son is up in the exec boxes and he gets over hyped to impress. The thing I don't know if we'll ever get out of him is clearly if he marks someone out on the opposition to leave something on then he doesn't forget; that's when in game the likes of Sonny, Ange etc need to pull him aside for 30 seconds or so and talk him down. Or if he's gonna do it be a lot cuter with it.*

TBH I think a number of these suspensions are creeping in due to lack of squad depth/injuries, being tasked with an aggressive full throttle style but without the rotation/substitutions to do it leads to mentally fatigued or tired players (even with no European fixtures) sure some of it's just brain farts but no doubt some it needs some couching finessing or acceptance we are going to play on the edge; if we're being kicked up in the air do the same if the ref's not going to, just be cute about it*

All my own opinions.

I thought we had the best buy ever at the beginning of the season, new manager and Bissouma looked mustard. Wow, mistake. The guy has looked nothing but average for months now. And getting 2 reds is just not acceptable in any way you try to digest it. Is he gonna learn? Gonna need another cm if he’s gonna carry on being sloppy in control and keep getting cards.

Just feels like something’s off. It doesn’t make sense to me, with him having reacted so well to Ange’s arrival and the responsibility thrust upon him. Is it too much too soon? Is he carrying an injury similar to Son and Rich last season, that we don’t know about?
I agree fully; as I said above (aside from I think 3 of the yellows early on being for dissent and the really dumb 2nd yellow for diving) those are stupid and avoidable yet inconsistently applied, not trying to absolve him of those but if you see your opponents get away with the same thing it's gotta be tough to bite your tongue.

IMHO it's partly bought about from lack of squad depth meaning mental fatigue/concentration errors and or some off the field issues/loss of form.

But I am purely guessing.

When you remember one red card was a second yellow for a dumb dive I don't think his rap sheet is much worse than other CM's in the league, dumb/naive yes but he's not flying in mistiming challenges every game is he?

I think the reds appear much worse due to lack of depth be that injuries or recruitment, losing Romero made worse by losing VDV and no cover, Bissouma loss felt worse due to no Bentancur, no Madison no Sarr, now AFCON makes it worse again.

If we'd had a healthy full squad with backups yes the suspensions would be felt but the amount of melodramatics would be nowhere near as high IMO, that we went from an unbeaten run to a terrible run just stopped people reacting without taking a breathe and applying a smattering of logic.

Yes to @fridgemagnet re Sonny or Ange having a word when Romero gets wild. Certainly felt that in his disastrous Chelsea game. A captain should have noticed he needed calming.

On Biss, in his fab period he was throwing beautiful feints, sending oppo players in the wrong direction regularly, creating space for fun. In a team of stars he stood out.

Its the feints that have disappeared and so he gets caught in possession more..and frustrated more leading to his red card stupidities...gonna see him next in Feb ffs .

Should Foden be sent off today then? Goes to kick the ball and just boots Mateta in the shin. Way more force, just as high. No outrage, no suggestions it's a red.
Studs up and studs down was the only possible thing but I agree, Biss was just unfortunate because he was going for where the ball was going to be on the bounce but Yates got a touch.

And while Foden's was more forceful, Mateta kind of came in from the blind side and I don't think Foden even realised he was there, he was just trying to wallop the ball clear and Mateta nipped across him.

I don't really think either were anymore than fouls, maybe yellows but certainly not malicious and deserving of a red.

It's my biggest annoyance in the game these days, I feel like I don't know the rules anymore because it's been over-complicated and seems to vary from call to call, game to game.

Yeah, I was kinda being facetious by mentioning the Foden one, but I agree with you completely. Both really I think are just yellow card fouls. Genuine attempts to get the ball fairly, just late.

The ball is bouncing, Yates gets a touch on just before him which knocks the ball down, otherwise it's going exactly where Bissouma's foot was. It was just a late challenge. Nothing malicious, nothing rash.

People see what they want to see. Loads of comments saying it was at knee height, conveniently ignoring the fact that Yates' leg was pretty much horizontal. The height of the tackle was actually about 8 inches off the ground which is less than the height of a football. Still, what's done is done.

And this is a huge f'n problem. Because 5 weeks of good form is nowhere near enough. He should be breathing fire to prove himself after the failure that was last season after his big move. He's totally dead on the ball.
This is a silly comment.

That still makes it look so much worse than it was.

Yates *just* gets a touch before him, Bissouma is trying to just hoof the ball. View attachment 135377
Yeah these stills are just as bad or worse than the slow motion replays. You could make a lot more fouls look like red cards this way. I mean people get kicked this way when a player misses the ball and often a lot higher. How often do players catch one in the body or even the head (Skipp says hello). I also hate when people say "he could break his leg" which is so far wrong. I just don't think those people know how unlikely and how little a player breaks their leg in football from a tackle. Bissouma just flicks his foot out, he would need to be fully planted with weight down and a straighter leg to risk breaking the guys leg.

Wasn't worried when he got sent off because he was useless before it. He should be dominating his position like at the start of the season. Rodri is the only one who is clearly better than him, but he needs to give 100% in every game and I rarely see it from him.
Yep. Kept waiting for him to show up. I dunno how many times I said to myself, "Biss needs to grab this game by the scruff of the neck." Never did it. I felt he went hiding a lot. Didn't go any movement or probing runs into the middle of the pitch where we needed him to break lines and suck Forest into the middle so we could do what we were trying to do all along and hit them out on the wings when they are out of position.

I said in the match thread that he’s always come across in interviews as a confident lad, but maybe that’s spilled over into a bit of arrogance.

It’s not just the ill discipline, but he’s regularly giving the ball away in stupid areas…. and if he’s going to do that then he’s not worth his place in the team, because he offers very little further up the pitch.
1000%. With things going on in life, I've just now been able to come in here and voice some things. What has ate away at me since watching that match is - if you're going to go in front of a camera and say you think you're the best midfielder in the Prem, which means you think you're one of the best in the world, then we better be seeing some evidence time and time again. And we better see you staring out of the pitch and be head and shoulders above the rest like a man among boys. Not seen anything like that since before Luton.
