Think as we look like qualifying for Europa, Werner is ideal for that competition and will get goals in there
Is it worth having a player on £8.5M a year for that?

Maybe, but you may find Leipzig insist on his return if the injury is serious as he's their asset and will want to ensure he's getting the best possible treatment in order to protect their investment.Be interesting to see if we send him back to Leipzig for treatment or if he stays with us. Will probably be telling of our intentions re retaining him or not.
I get what your saying, makes sense from their perspective, but surely if we were intending to trigger his clause we would have communicated that to Leipzig and would prefer to oversee it ourselves. Doesn't our option end at the close of the season or is it a few weeks after? If its at the end of the season thats only two and half weeks away so one would hope we would have decide behind the scenes if we intend to retain him or not. Unless the severity of the injury is serious enough to put us off there is isn't much more we can learn about him at this point to influence our decision ether way.Maybe, but you may find Leipzig insist on his return if the injury is serious as he's their asset and will want to ensure he's getting the best possible treatment in order to protect their investment.
I think even if we were quite sure on him we would be silly to commit straight away whilst there are uncertainties regarding players in other area's. I'm sure it would be of those we can string out a bit to make sure we have some of our other ducks in order first. It appears Timo would be happy to stay and we know Leipzig want him gone so it puts us in quite a strong position in that regard.I get what your saying, makes sense from their perspective, but surely if we were intending to trigger his clause we would have communicated that to Leipzig and would prefer to oversee it ourselves. Actual assists is dependent on teammates putting chances away, so xA is perhaps a better reflection of what he offers in terms of chance creation.Well an xG over twice his actual goals scored kind of tells the story doesn't it?
Expected assists and assists I'm seeing different stats. He's 53rd and 65th percentile in those.
I don't think he's bad at all but starting to wonder if using 17 mil to make it permanent is a good idea. On the one hand we'll have a lot of games next season but on the other we need to be signing some really good players, not average, and we still have Solomon and Son in that position.
It would be unlike Levy to cough up the agreed 'option to buy' fee without trying to negotiate it down, even if Ange was decisive about wanting a permanent deal.I think even if we were quite sure on him we would be silly to commit straight away whilst there are uncertainties regarding players in other area's. I'm with you there, still undecided and with him now out, it looks like that'll be the way I remain.I can’t remember being so torn about a player. Showed glimpses as a good pacey outlet but do worry even out wide his finishing is not great at best. Nooooo having him and exploiting that pace if he doesn’t take advantage.
Totally forgot about Solomon, is he out for the season too?Another loan would be good to be honest. See how Soloman does as well then. I would be looking for a centre forward and a wide attacker who can play either wing. Both need to be first team calibre. Then keep the better of Soloman or Werner beyond next season unless a prospect breaks through instead. Although we may shift Son by then so could still keep one for depth.
It's a loss for this season now but not long left anyway. I have to say I'll be happy to see Son on the left and Richarlison up top now though.

I think a lot of it comes down to how not getting him or getting would effect our other business in attacking areas. Problem is we have no idea who else we are targeting so its impossible to say I would rather get X or Y which we wouldn't be able to get if we buy Werner. Likewise its possible Werner's reasonably low fee might allow us a bigger spend on our other attacking targets. Plus we have no idea if he will accept a contract reduction, he is certainly not worth his current one and would have to accept a considerable reduction IMO. It also is a question as what happens with Solomon, do we keep him or not.I'm with you there, still undecided and with him now out, it looks like that'll be the way I remain.
I mean, I like him and what he offers and I don't want to fall into the trap of thinking that a new shiny thing will automatically be better but...
It's a hard decision because his price and his overall play are a big positive but they are counter-balanced by his wages and to be brutal, his woeful finishing.

Without knowing all that I struggle to feel particularly attached ether way. For me Werner is a very solid back up/squad option but nothing more. I wouldn't like to go into next season with him being our starting LW and for that reason i'm sort of indifferent to wheather we sign him or not. I can undressed why we would and likewise why we wouldn't. Until we see the bigger picture in regards to the rest of our transfer business It's impossible to know for sure. Just have to put our trust in Ange and scouting team who will have a much better idea of our overall squad building plans for the summer.
