outrageous creative talent whens that going to happen then ? most of the game he hides on the half way line beats a couple of people in areas that don't matter and then disappears for great swathes of games . Though the side needs a midfield player with a bit more licence to create that's looking as though its going to be a wide player and he certainly isn't that and there is no place for him in a midfield 3 because he doesn't have the work rate or defensive nous - atm you can only see him getting an occasional kick as a sub if we are chasing a game and his not that type of player mind you I struggle to work out what type of midfield player he really is or wants to be
It's such a pity. We should be complaining about rumours linking him to big European clubs by now but he's just not lived up to the talent that he clearly has.

so the issue isn't actually attitude, cos what kane did was far worse than what ndombele's done but he's got the benefit of the doubt (because he's a better player, which is what i wish we'd admit rather than pretending it's a moral thing). and he literally "got his head down and worked hard" to get back into mourinho's plans last season.

From all the info from various sources he just isn't that bothered / doesn't have the drive to improve himself. I get the impression that he won't fight for his team mates on the pitch like we have seen Skipp, dele and PEH do in all 3 PL games. There is no doubting his technical ability. If he could combine that with Dele's, Dier's or even Winks' workrate and willingness to do the dirty work he'd be some player.

The problem is he'd rather just move on to his next cushy gig. He is the very definition of a luxury player.

he *has* done the dirty work. his defensive stats last season have been cited many times

I can't remember what game it was but towards the end of last season he just gave up on the runner who strolled through and scored. No excuse for that shit. Typically for this board I think Dier got the blame.

But yeah, his fans on here know better than nuno, Mason, our ITK's, AG, and other non-spurs centric journos.

2 weeks to get properly up to speed during the internationals, no excuses

He's had all summer to do that and seemingly just can't be arsed.

I'm all for a good redemption story but I think he is a lost cause for us. How many times has he asked to leave now? How long after he was made our record signing on ludicrous wages did he ask to leave because pre-season was a bit tough? How many times has he managed 90 mins in 2 years?

He's a coaster.

Jesus Christ, we’re now using the amount of times somebody sprints per 90 mins as a number 10 or in a midfield 2 with a team that averaged 30% possession against a DM in a team that has 60% possession as a yardstick for how hard they work? BC would have been proud of that one.

I don't think too many. Last season with Ndombele playing we weren't conceding a lot of goals.

I guess we just have to trust that Nuno and his staff know best who fits into their plan. That Winks has way more minutes (including pre-season) already than Tanguy says everything you need to know imo.

Can you honestly see Tanguy doing the 11.5 km of dirty work that Dele has done 3 PL games in a row now? Can you see him battling like PEH, or having the positional discipline that Skipp has had? I'm sorry but I can't.

There’ll be a useless stat from the Athletic where they’ll convince you he’s better for us than PEH mate.

Stats, Schmats. I use my eyes. Old school me mate :D

(PS Im a physicist so I do know that stats have their place, in context. But I also know they lie and are easily manipulated!)

That would be very good point. But Tottenham had more % possession than Brighton last season

Yeah I can imagine him doing that. It was a match with a goal and he had most tackles, most interceptions and most pressures

Sheffield was his best game for us by a mile. That goal will live long in the memory.

Shame it's one game in 2 years.

Hope he can get his head down and have a good season, even though he should have had his head down all Summer like Dele did and benefited from preseason.

Last season the midfield looked good on paper, however it just never had the right chemistry or balance. I wonder with Skipp around if it will be better this season. Dele/GLC - Skipp/Winks - PEH/Tanguy I reckon.

What about up until February which was what the original graph was showing?
51 Brighton 49 Spurs, so the difference is still minimal. I think % of ball possession when Ndombele was playing was bit higher too when for example he didn't play against Arsenal or Liverpool and that were two games with our lowest %.

Which average are you using? Mean or Median?

EDIT: To be honest it’s not important really. If we’re being realistic it’s far too small a sample size to either use positively or indeed negatively against anyone.

Can’t see him doing some/any of those… but I also can’t see PEH or Skipp receiving the ball in a tight midfield, easing a couple of players out of the way and putting a killer pass through for Kane or Son.

Point being IF he fully applies himself, he can be a great asset, however on the basis that he wants to leave, I’m not sure we will get the best outta him.

So any news on Tanguy's agent actually doing anything productive in regard to finding a club for him?
