Not really what he's saying though is it?

No but I can just very much imagine it being the mindset. And I say that because I know 'it's United' but they still don't have the same appeal as they once had, when you consider things such as there apparently not being the best harmony among the group (from the views of Sanchez and Lukaku), we just beat them 6-1 signifying problems and Son is at a place that he quite clearly very much loves and gets to show up at the best training facilities every day and play in the best stadium in Europe throughout the season.

Just the sort of things you may consider before spouting out that your team should buy such a player under current circumstances.

Tinted glasses or not, Son moving to United would be a very strange transfer to happen.

Reckon he should hopefully be able to beat his record of 14 league goals for us this season, he should be able to get 20 at least with his ability.

Hope we manage to get him signed up.

Why wouldn’t any United fan want to try and sign Son?

We’d all want him in our team if he didn’t play for us already. The lad is, to paraphrase Harry Rednknapp, top top top top class.

I can see Son and Kane getting At least 50 goals between them this season. If they do and we still don’t win anything then I’m afraid we just doesn’t deserve nice things.

.. Then we should sort out that defence once and for all. Probably a good idea anyway, it would be ridiculous to win nothing with players like Lloris, Reguilon, Ndombele, Lo Celso, Son, Kane, Bale etc.

Even my oh so deluded gooner colleague who think Kane is shit (no, he really does !!!), think Sonny is class.

Apart from being a phenomenal player, he seems like a genuinely good guy - he smiles with his body.

A lot of Arsenal fans don't rate Kane. It's nothing but denial as they originally started off calling him a 'one season wonder', then it became 'tap in merchant' then it became 'goal snatcher' then 'penalty merchant'.

They can't accept that Kane continuously answers their criticism so they end up trying to pick more holes in his game until it becomes basically a "he's overrated" or "he's lucky" argument. It also may have something to do with them letting him go when he was younger.

Every single coach in world football would have Harry Kane in their team without a doubt.

If you watch any of those fan debates, it's usually the Chelsea or Arsenal ones who try to downplay everything about him, yet United fans, City fans and so will all say they'd love to have him.

Which shows a clear sign of jealousy.

I think Aubameyang is a superb striker and wouldn't dispute that, cause id look bitter and stupid.

However, he hasn't got as much to his game as Kane. We are so lucky to have him.

We are also so lucky to have Sonny, another player who continues to get better and better despite the impression that he had a limit to his potential.

I think rival teams hate it because he's been an obviously top class player for a while now but somehow still somewhat goes under the radar and is never linked with a move away from the club. Has been like having a completely no-hassle world class player who just wants to be at the club.

Ahhh yes, well that's a common thought process on here. Posters imagining something to be the case and posting it like it's true.

Obviously it's not factual but it's just what I believe to be the case, just like if he said 'Messi is free next year and Spurs won't keep hold of Kane and Son, should we try and sign all three?'. I'd be even more encouraged that he thinks of Man United as being able to click their fingers and get anyone, even if that's not what he said. I don't think it would be a crime to think as much even if those exact words weren't said.

Obviously that example is a lot more ridiculous, but the principle is the same. I personally find the idea of Son moving to United ridiculous. Whether someone else agrees or disagrees with that is very much up to them.

I know what you mean.

You only have to go on RedCafe for 2 minutes to see there's a certain entitlement among some Utd fans. Many of them them are a lot more realistic about their gradual decline and know they'd have no chance of signing Kane or Son, but there are others that look down upon all 'smaller' clubs and feel it's their divine right to poach their best players as they did under Fergie.

It's definitely a thing.

It's the same old, same old. People used to say this thing about Jimmy Greaves back in the day - goal poacher, etc. As if being a goal poacher is not in itself a fantastic skilful thing and ignoring the amount of goals he used to rattle in week in and week out. Denis Law was another who got the same criticism. Pathetic.

Yeah, there is often a 'let's just sign him up' type of comment irrespective of the actual likelihood of it happening. I mean you probably see it across a few fanbases but I definitely see it a lot among United supporters.

I think the fact that a lot of rival fans rate Son but don't rate Kane says a lot about how some people view football.

Kane is a fucking unbelievable player but if you catch him on an off day or watch him for England he can look quite cumbersome and leggy. He doesn't have lightning pace or do eye-catching skills so a lot of people foolishly write him off on that basis. Then when they do see him do amazing stuff they fall back on their biases "he's just lucky". They either choose to ignore, or don't notice, his passing, vision, intelligence, the variety of his finishing, his positional sense, etc simply because in their mind "he's Harry Kane and he's shit". That said, there must be some kind of cognitive dissonance going on as it's hard to argue with 150 goals for Spurs, but that's people for ya. The fact that he's decidedly uncool and has a bit of a speech impediment doesn't help his cause either (not that either of those things matter a jot).

Meanwhile Son is pacey as fuck, a friendly face and much more eye-catching to the casual viewer. Even when he's shit he's still running around a lot and he has absurd goals like the Burnley one for people to point at. He's not got the baggage of not squaring it to Sterling in the World Cup semis hanging around his neck - he's just an exciting player people want in their team.

Also, it's not like us Spurs fans can be too precious about Kane, as tons of us were exactly the same about Frank Lampard. I've heard so many people say they didn't really rate Frank despite him being Chelsea's top scorer and an incredible, record breaking midfielder. And the reasons are very similar to why Arsenal/Chelsea fans don't rate Kane: 'average for England', 'only scores deflections', along with him being more of a grafter than an eye-catching speed merchant or natural talent.

It comes down to classic confirmation bias and the fact that he's useless on Ultimate Team.

They prefer spending record fees on average players
