2019 Winks was really good, we just need to help him regain his confidence and form. Just watch the first 1 minute of this compilation and you can see that Winks can be really good for us.

That wasn't nice to watch as he's regressed quite a bit since those highlights. Needs some confidence to not play safe

It's certainly impressive but how does it compare to other DMF's for context? I'd imagine that most teams who play DMF's have a high stat because they are the ones breaking up play and passing the ball to start attacks.

It’s amazing what forcing him into a DM role which he is clearly not suited to has done to him. Looks a shadow of that player these days. I understand some of it will be mental and the roll he is asked to play, but he really lost that aggressive forward movement to his play. He’s very crab like now.

It's clear that he's not a DM and would do better playing along side PEH. I always think back to that run against City earlier this year as proof that he can thrive as a box-to-box CM

Agreed. He doesn't have the skillset for the DM role. Shame that he's being asked to cover that position as it is hampering his development. Hopefully, whenever Skipp comes back, it will free Winks from that role.

... and then he can compete with Ndombele, Lo Celso and Dele for the CAM role. Good luck to him.

Not really. Up until Jose believes Tanguy and Lo Celso can start games, Winks can step in for Sissoko. Also, Dele really isn't in contention so he's a non-factor.

Lots of fans say this and whilst I agree with you, he doesn't have the talent of Dembele, NDombele, Lo Celso or Modric to be the attacking/creative CM with our ambitions. He'd just be an your typical/average top half premier league CM.

This is why he has been pushed into a DM role that he's slightly worse at because it's tempting to think he could fit into that role or do a job for the team there if a gap needs filling.

Doesn't really fit the bill of mourinho's strong defensively disciplined athletic CM though still even to partner Hojbjerg.

But Mourinho plays him a lone DM role. Make no sense to say he's not fit to cover the CM role as he's being tasked with playing the DM role, which IMO is the more difficult position. Also, this is the same Mourinho who has gone on record saying that Sissoko is not the type of CM he trusts to play in a typical CM midfield but he plays him regardless. At least with Winks you get a solid ball carrier, some progressive passing (depending on what his instructions are) and good ball retention.

So PEH is having problems with his Winks, but I like the way he makes the opposition blink first.

Take a bow PEH. As superb as Kane was today, Hojbjerg wasn’t far behind for MOTM. Outstanding.
