I'd prefer Winks in there to Sissoko tbh. I get the impression with Winks that he does exactly what he's told to do by the manager, which much of the time looks rather boring, but, he's been given instructions to not give away possession and keep things ticking over. If he gets a bit more freedom to express himself he has plenty of tools in his locker.
Yea i would too but think Jose will favour Sissoko's athleticism, suppose it could depend game by game which of the two are more suited to the match.

I think a lot depends on what happens with Aurier. Sissoko's athleticism is certainly very useful when he's covering Aurier as much as he does. Maybe a different RB would lessen the need for that.

His locker is absolutely empty - left any tools he had behind in Toulouse.

A very weirdly written article now on BBC: www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/53664325

Prize quote: "The two clubs have now finally agreed a fee that is less than £25m, but a lot more than Spurs' initial £15m offer."

Almost expected an "honest guvnor" at the end of that one.

I wouldn't be surprised if Levy has added in payments if he wins the golden boot or golden gloves to take it to 25m.

You're not wrong there actually, if we had a self sufficient RB who doesn't need babysitting then that would change how we can play for sure good point. Imagine if we had prime walker, absolutely no need for Sissoko to do the job he's now doing then. Chelsea had Ivanovic rading up and down under Jose when they last won the league playing the way jose is trying to get us to now play, he was perfect for that role, very solid defender but also got 6 goals that season i think.

I think if we could shift Aurier and Sissoko for good money we would benefit in the long run. I'm not an Aurier hater by any means and I love the sheer graft Sissoko puts in, but both players have substantial limitations and I think we could bag a quality RB for part of what they'd bring in and be all the better for it.

Completely agree I suppose its just we can't do everything at once so perhaps moving on Aurier for now and then Sissoko mabye the following summer something like that. He's very handy especially in the big games where his physicality helps a lot in the defensive side but longer-term I agree neither of them are good enough for where we want to be.

As said by others, we've needed a presence on the pitch especially in midfield that won't accept poor performance and can cajole/spur/scream players who are operating at less than full out. While his technical skills will be a real asset, i suspect that his mentality could be his biggest contribution as he helps other players raise their game. Fingers crossed on this one.

Bit weird for Everton's second bid to be £10m lower than their first :cautious:

Give him the number 16 shirt. Always seems like a good number for a DM to me.
On that note, it’s quite sad to see the number 5 shirt vacant ?

I wonder if he will try and get the no.23 shirt off Bergwijn (if he has no attachment to that number)

You’re only as good as your weakest link. They are our weakest links.

Well we have seen deals go south at this stage before. BUT if close and gets over the line I think this is a good signing that was a priority for the manager in a a position that absolutely required attention for a player who has experience in the league wen the country for a good deal before pre season. Lovely job.

Anyone who has a subscription feel free to elaborate but via the aggregators this article says he'll have a medical soon and deal will be concluded this week.

Anyone who has a subscription feel free to elaborate but via the aggregators this article says he'll have a medical soon and deal will be concluded this week.

Tottenham have agreed fees with Southampton to sign Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and for Kyle Walker-Peters to move in the other direction.

Hojbjerg will become Jose Mourinho’s first signing of the summer in a deal starting at £15 million with add-ons, while Walker-Peters’ loan at St Mary’s will be made permanent for £12m before performance clauses.

The deals were treated separately, rather than a swap, with the intention of concluding both this week once medicals are completed.

Hojbjerg, 24, had one year left on his contract at St Mary’s and publicly stated he wanted to move to a club playing European football, and he will be playing in the Europa League with Spurs next season.
The Denmark international had the captaincy taken away from him when he refused to commit his future to the club and Spurs held the upper hand in negotiations as the player wanted to join them ahead of Everton and Ajax.

Walker-Peters, 23, spent the second half of the season on loan at Southampton and played regularly during Project Restart after recovering from injury during football’s break for the coronavirus pandemic.
Spurs will look for a right-back to cover for the loss of Walker-Peters and should they lose Serge Aurier. AC Milan are interested in Aurier but are not close to his asking price.

Hojbjerg will compete for a place in central midfield where Tanguy N’Dombele struggled in his first season at the club following his club record £53.8m move from Lyon. Harry Winks, Moussa Sissoko, Giovani Lo Celso and Gedson Fernandes are other options, while Eric Dier was played at centre-back in recent games.
As revealed by the Daily Telegraph, former Spurs captain Ledley King has been appointed as first-team assistant at the club.

"He has tremendous affinity with this club. Fans appreciate how much he accomplished as a true Spurs man on and off the pitch," said Mourinho. "We have developed a good relationship, and we hope to use his experience and insight."
