The Blackmore chap said that we had matched their valuation, not that we had bid £25m. Southampton could've dropped their valuation after no-one came in with a bid of that value. I wouldn't be suprised it its £15m up front and there are £5m in variables that they consider easily achievable (league position, UCL spots, UCL participation). And if we get those variables then £5m is nothing.

Apologies if this has already been posted. This was his game vs us earlier this season. I think the reason that a lot of us noticed him is that while he does make some mistakes he always gets involved. You can tell he has the sort of attitude mou likes.

I'm impressed with his vision watching this. He can really pick a pass, even if some of them don't come off. I think he can add a lot to our midfield.

Yep If this gets done soon that’s very promising. Would hopefully bode well for getting other targets Jose has set.
I imagine with PEH on vacation we'll probably have to wait until his return (Monday or Tuesday maybe?) before we get any official announcement.

He's doing a better job of exactly what Jose is currently asking Winks to do so i can see why if we sign him Winks might want to leave.

They will. Fans were saying Levy didn't back Poch last summer even though it has been confirmed by JJ, amongst others, that we signed all our first choice targets.

Can you provide link to JJ quote saying we signed all our first choice targets. Thanks.

Keeps it simple and protects the back 4 and is young and a leader, to be a captain at that age and to have played for Bayern, whats not to like.
He could become the heartbeat in this Jose side.

I'm so intrigued to see where Jose feels we need to improve.

As fans we area all saying similar things in terms of RB,CB,LB?,DM,AM,ST, when Jose went back to Chelsea 2nd time I think he signed 4 top players in key weak areas:
Courtious
Matic
Fabreagas
Costa

No i know we won't go and buy 4 players of that level its not realistic but if we can make 4-5 clever signings this summer similar to the Hoyjberg signing who tbh I don't think will be far off the quality that Matic had and we can strengthern 4 key areas then I think we can be very very strong next season under Jose.

If Hoyjberg comes in thats 1 important part of the 4 part puzzle which is done and dusted early so fingers crossed we can keep being quick and efficient in our business this summer.

It's not Winks preferred role. He's been crow-barred in there because we have nobody else. Winks is much better as an 8.

I agree winks is a player who plays best with a bit of freedom to get on the ball and keep things moving, obviously not to the same level yet but similar to the job Xavi did for barca he wasn't the one responsible for creating but he was always available for those players to lay the ball off to and to get the ball quickly and safely into their feet. Currently he's stuck in his own half with a donkey beside him so the opposition can just sit off him and mark the forward players. Adding hojbjerg will free him up and allow him to work as a link between hojbjerg and locelso and the attacking trio.

I agree mate 100% but I don't think if we have PEH doing the n.o 6 mop up job that Winks would get much game time as the slightly more advanced all round n.o8, I think that would be mainly Sissoko, sometimes Lo Celso and possibly Ndombele or a replacement if he can't be relied upon so Winks will become a squad player which would be a huge shame as he's Spurs through and through and he's had games like the CL game vs Real Madrid where he was world class but I'm not sure he's good enough consistently enough to be our n.o8, i wish he was but just not sure.

What do you think?

I think it's as much to do with chemistry with a player like Hojbjerg. One thing I'm pretty sure of is that if Ndombele is still here, Hojbjerg will be right up in his grille if he saunters about like he doesn't give a fuck. Could be the making of him which would be fantastic.

I've seen a fair few So'ton fans saying he wouldn't be better at covering the back 4 than our current options: "with players like Sissoko, Winks, etc will Hojbjerg even get a game?".

Interesting how perception of players differs so much between fans. Anyone who watches Spurs regularly knows that our CM is by far our biggest weakness (well, along with RB). Even an unspectacular, defensive minded, player who is good at breaking up the play and maintaining possession would be a huge upgrade on what we've got at the moment.

Obviously it would be nice to have someone truly special in that position, but quite frankly I'd be more than happy with a 6-7/10 player with a good injury record who really wants to be at the club. Especially for the price we're getting him.

I'd prefer Winks in there to Sissoko tbh. I get the impression with Winks that he does exactly what he's told to do by the manager, which much of the time looks rather boring, but, he's been given instructions to not give away possession and keep things ticking over. If he gets a bit more freedom to express himself he has plenty of tools in his locker.

Why lloris or sissoko can't do this to ndombele?

I think it will be horses for courses.

There will be games where it makes sense to start Winks alongside Hojbjerg, just as there will be games where it makes sense to start Ndombele, Lo Celso or perhaps even Sissoko, alongside him (hopefully not very often, mind).

There will also be games where it makes sense to bring him on as a sub to help us keep the ball once we're ahead.

Maybe Winks will make some kind of breakthrough with someone more defensively minded behind him. I wouldn't bet on it, but fingers crossed. I don't think him being a squad player is a huge shame though. I've seen Winks have plenty of good games but off the top of my head I can't really think of any truly standout performances (maybe that Real one). Squad player seems about his level.
