I think this is the summer to sell him, or at a minimum loan him out. I don’t think he’ll get much of a look in this season so his stock won’t be any higher than it currently is. Hard worker, disciplined passer but doesn’t have the flair, athleticism and dynamism to be an elite level Premier League footballer. People said the same about Winks and look what happened; he got lapped.

Think Sarr has all the tools to be a better 6 and understudy for Bissouma

Not what Ange is saying, 100% part of his plans.

Completely agree, but I think you'll find Skipp is an 8 in Ange's system, which is one reason why we're happy to cash in on PEH.
I think we'll find in practice he has the stamina to play the role but not the vision, eye for a key pass or finishing ability. Too one sided, literally can't play anything off his left side which eliminates way too many angles.

I think he’s shown the potential to have the first two, but definitely still a question mark over his finishing, but mostly because up to now he’s had very few chances to put it into practice. As for his one-sided-ness, I don’t see him being more so than anyone else vying for that position?

Maddison plays nicely off the outside of his right, especially in tight situations

Bents can play most simple left-footed passes

Agree re Sarr, similar to Skipp

It's almost like these top level managers know something our resident Match of the Day watchers don't..
It’s almost like Oliver Skipp was sitting right next to him when he answered this question.

Not saying that means it’s not true, but what else was he meant to do there? Turn to Skipp and say you are not in my plans lol?

Pretty ridiculous question from the journalist

I agree with your overall assessment of him, but he's a very handy squad player and we shouldn't be selling a CM when we've sold one already and got 3 others players who can play in that position potentially leaving (Hojbjerg, Ndombele, Lo Celso).

Skipp is very similar to later years Scott Parker for me. He's not good enough going forward to be an 8, but he is tidy enough on the ball to play as a 6, and probably has the edge on Sarr defensively. Sarr has a better shot on him, is more dynamic and more suited to an 8 role.

I'd have Bissouma and Skipp as number 6
GLC, Maddison, Bentancur, Sarr as number 8s

Clearly within that you can switch a few of those versatile players around. Bissouma would do well as an 8, Bentancur and Sarr as a 6, etc.

I think the issue is that Ange prefers to have a playmaker at 6. Skipp doesn’t really suit that as he isn’t an exceptional passer and can’t wriggle his way through a press.

He’s got the engine to play as an 8, the question is can he add the movement and vision? He’s done a decent job of it the last couple of friendlies IMO, though probably our least impressive 8 so far.

The argument for excluding Skipp from the #6 debate because that player is a playmaker in Ange's system fall's apart when Bissouma is favoured there.

Bissouma is not an elite level passer, he's far more comfortable running past people and is a top level ball winner. I think that is what Ange is opting for this season, having a solid ball winner at #6 more than anything else.

Think it’s the press resistance in that role too. The #6 is the first out ball from the defence and has to be able to receive the ball, turn and progress it (either passing or by going past a player) while under pressure. Bissouma can definitely do that. Skipp while having the engine to do the defensive side of the role has struggled under pressure.

I think Skipp's passing and ability to turn and play progressively under pressure is being massively under rated as a consequence of his patchy form post injury.

He had a year out and 6 months back looking rusty and much slower in his body.

It's really important he can get back to the level of fitness and confidence he had under Nuno and early Conte.

If he does that I have zero concerns he'll have a big career at Spurs and England as a ball progressing 6.

Bentancaur will be a good 6 when he's back.
