That's one Levy can't wriggle out of. Mourinho has put that out there as plain as days.
Jose, the trustworthy source. Can you imagine what we and Jose would have been saying if we bought Kim from the Chinese league and he was shit?

We missed out, which is very annoying but Jose is the absolute last source I'd trust on that when all evidence would suggest he'd have been the first to say no thanks

Well accoeding to Jose we didn't want to pay for Kim because "we weren't spending at that time" but I'm fairly sure we went for Rodon instead that same window who cost more than Kim would've (11m for Rodon when Kim was worth 8 or 9m).

Doubt we'll ever find out the full truth of the matter, but Jose's story doesn't quite add up.

Rodon strikes me as a Hitchen signing. Lot of ITK that he had good ideas and was overruled, but fact of the matter is our recruitment while he was head was proper dog-shit

I don't think Mourinho would say that so openly without it being true.

Reckon there's definitely some truth to it but suspect Jose's telling a version of the story that makes him look good.

Doubt he was all over signing a Korean CB playing in China back in 2020 - it was obviously a player identified by the club.

No one is unobtainable if pay the right price. Besides he took Lenglet, hardly the action of someone that won't take players.
But if you're not paying or you can't pay the right price they're unattainable that's why they're unattainable, or if they've made it clear they're not interested in coming.
Lenglet was on a one year loan with no option, so literally a stopgap.

Myself and many others have had decades of this at this point. It'll take many near faultless years of business (transfer wise at least, who knows how players will actually turn out) before any benefit of the doubt is given.

We need more than just one good CB so the later the first one arrives, the more some will fear the worst.

And on this issue - this specific position - it's been multiple windows, entire seasons have come and gone, without addressing it adequately. Patience is already thin.
I was sitting in the stands since the late 90's. You'd think 20 years of "waiting" would give enough perspective.

I've never recovered from the Saha and Nelson window.

There's no way Mourinho wouldn't have got the little money it cost to sign Kim back then if he had insisted on it. His words clearly come with an agenda and hindsight.

Well we sold dembele and signed no one in one of them. That trumps adding tra.ezzani
No, it really doesn't. We subsequently made it to the champions league final. I usually measure windows based on what we did following on from it.

Dembele left because he wanted to go to an easier league, he was coming off an ankle ligament injury.

We went on the worst run of league form we've had in ages off the back of losing dembele and it cost poch his job.

We made the final inspite of this and arguably it set in motion the terrible situation we have been in since poch went.

With so many fans on here losing their minds about not having VdV or another new CB on board for the tour, I worry a lot of you are setting yourselves up for massive disappointment at how we start the season. This is going to be a massive transition, from the awful football of the last 4 years to the front-foot possession based approach Ange wants. Regardless of whether we have new CB options with the squad for the whole of preseason or just the latter stages, the first few months of the season are going to be rocky.

Yes it would be beneficial to have our new CBs integrated well before we face Brentford, but the reality is that if we perform badly in the early stages of the season it’s not going to be just because VdV missed a couple of weeks of training in July.
Surely the best way to minimize a rocky start is to be as best prepared as possible. It's a problem position for us and a lot of folks feel we should be helping Ange as much as possible to avoid a mediocre start, which could become very detrimental to his tenure. Not necessarily because of twitchy fans, thought that's entirely possible, but because Levy has no fortitude to handle it without panicking.

It is imperative that Spurs fans compare 23/24 Spurs to the prior season Spurs, and not to 23/24 Arsenal, City, Liverpool, Newcastle. Those sides, already miles ahead of us, are fine tuning. We're rebuilding, with a new manager and new management staff. And a star player who might leave. And a gaping hole at centre half after years of precipitous decline toward a shitshow of a team last season.

Fans share your concern about a rocky start and want some action on that now. Not sleepwalk towards it and then call for calm acceptance if/when a centre half shitshow is one of the drivers of underperformance.

So after reading Trix's latest info in the ITK thread I wonder what has happened in regards to signing van de Ven.

By all accounts we have been talking to the player and his club, and recent ITK was that the deal should've been done by now, so what has suddenly happened?

I think Ange was always going to take as many players on your as possible to make sure he has seen everything he needs to see in regards to making decisions on who to keep, so is it a case of he needs to make a decision about the current squad before we sign another centre back?
