Weird how there's always one position that Danny seems to have real trouble with, but also that the position has changed over the years.

At one point it seemed like we were always so close to getting a striker that never arrived, then he kept buying turd midfielders and ballsing up deals for good ones, now we can get attacking players in and have a million full backs on the books but he won't get a centre back in despite our defence being a disgrace last season.

It's strange as he dropped over £40m for Sanchez before, but perhap that explains our current predicament.

colour me shocked. the bare shoots of hope and anticipation didn't last long.

if it pans out that levy's fucked us over yet again there'll be nowhere left to hide. a half empty stadium with a disillusioned fan base that hates him will be his only legacy.

It’s always felt on the defenders that we’ve been trying to work multiple deals at the same time. I’m sure we’ll pull the trigger on one but it’s feeling more likely that some of those we want to replace will still be around.

I think Levy has re-established control because he thinks there's a chance Bayern will pay up for Kane. Regardless of who we bring in beforehand, the fans will be expecting him to reinvest that £100m or so. With that in mind if you stall the incomings then you can bring them in afterwards and convince everyone that they were only possible with the Kane windfall.

So after reading Trix's latest info in the ITK thread I wonder what has happened in regards to signing van de Ven.

By all accounts we have been talking to the player and his club, and recent ITK was that the deal should've been done by now, so what has suddenly happened?

I think Ange was always going to take as many players on your as possible to make sure he has seen everything he needs to see in regards to making decisions on who to keep, so is it a case of he needs to make a decision about the current squad before we sign another centre back?
You don't need to make a decision about Sanchez. Or Tanganga.

Seriously though if we don't sign a decent centre back (we ideally need two at least) we'll be pretty much in the same position as last season, even worse.
