I do blame him for missing the point blank range, uncontested, easy, free header he missed.

Was never a pen, even in build up joelinton NFL tackled hojberg, not his or diers fault for what happened next

Ridiculous decision and no blame on dier, but it's starting to become a familiar theme where teams target dier on set pieces.
Agree with this, it seems to be a regular thing now, can't blame him today, but I never get that reassurance when he plays that I did with top level Verts, Toby, King. Deffo need to uprgade

The pen came from a FK very similar to the one from which Everton scored their goal on opening day.
Regardless of whether Dier could be blamed or not for the handball - we do look very shaky defending set pieces.
Oppo knows that they will have a great goal scoring opportunity by getting a FK in the final third of the pitch.

We used to be so good at it as well. Poch really had us well drilled on defending corners and free kicks.

He had a solid game yesterday and got the ball headed at him from an impossible angle to avoid. I don't see why he's being blamed for anything from yesterday other than the referees and the handball ruling being shocking.

What gives me some comfort (other than short term) is that Jose usually knows how to spot a good defender.

Jose also did pretty well organizing the backfour at Manure, without exactly having top quality defenders at his disposal.

You mark a player and it’s ad is le that you stand behind or beside them. You need to see what they are doing
Er, surely you try to stop the ball getting to the head of the attacker, especially one as dangerous in the air as Carroll. Standing behind, or next to him would be totally pointless.
I don't see any problems with Dier's positioning at all, the problem is with the referee and these new, stupid rules.

Well the fact that Carroll was standing behind Dier amd Carroll got the ball seems to indicate that Dier being in front of him was pretty pointless really
