we need to get Dier an extra long sleeved top for the next game
Solid performance, but he is so fucking unlucky.
Ridiculous decision and no blame on dier, but it's starting to become a familiar theme where teams target dier on set pieces.Anyone blaming Dier for that handball has clearly never tried to jump for a ball in the air before.
They were targeting Andy Carroll, Dier was assigned to mark him. Would’ve been the same if Sanchez was marking him.Ridiculous decision and no blame on dier, but it's starting to become a familiar theme where teams target dier on set pieces.
Agree with this, it seems to be a regular thing now, can't blame him today, but I never get that reassurance when he plays that I did with top level Verts, Toby, King. The pen came from a FK very similar to the one from which Everton scored their goal on opening day.
Regardless of whether Dier could be blamed or not for the handball - we do look very shaky defending set pieces.
Oppo knows that they will have a great goal scoring opportunity by getting a FK in the final third of the pitch.
If he was marking Carroll he shouldn’t have had his back turned towards him for a start. They were targeting Andy Carroll, Dier was assigned to mark him. Would’ve been the same if Sanchez was marking him.

You mark a player and it’s ad is le that you stand behind or beside them. You need to see what they are doingWhat? He was facing the direction the ball was coming from

Er, surely you try to stop the ball getting to the head of the attacker, especially one as dangerous in the air as Carroll. Standing behind, or next to him would be totally pointless. You mark a player and it’s ad is le that you stand behind or beside them. You need to see what they are doing
Well the fact that Carroll was standing behind Dier amd Carroll got the ball seems to indicate that Dier being in front of him was pretty pointless reallyEr, surely you try to stop the ball getting to the head of the attacker, especially one as dangerous in the air as Carroll. I don't see any problems with Dier's positioning at all, the problem is with the referee and these new, stupid rules.
