Alderweireld should be the first of any Spurs names making the list. Consistently our best player this season, and for me by some considerable distance. I fucking well hope he now wins the club award.

Stupidly, winners are announced next Sunday with 3 games of the season remaining (4 in our case). So the title race could still be wide open when it's announced.

Well, that's just fucking stupid. Mahrez and Alli it is then.

Can't believe anyone thinks it'll be Coutinho. Alli has scored more league goals, has more assists and is 3/4 years younger?! If anything it's a straight fight between Alli and Lukaku, and with it being Alli's breakout season and the media creaming all over him, he's got to be a shoo-in for the Young Player.

POTY surely has to be Mahrez.

PFA Player of the year

Why do you think the voting commences in January, the player of the year is for the calendar year, not the season which is why they announce it before the season is done.

Bit silly if you ask me but that's what it is.

I've never even realised that. I always thought it was for the season.

Neither makes sense though as how the hell would Alli or Mahrez make a list if its only based on (for them) half a year.
Close the lines, shut up shop, give the lot to Kane.

Yet here we are... so its some kind of weird arse hybrid.

Except it's not. It's for the football year, hence this award will be referred to as the 2015-16 year.

It isn't. @Shadydan is correct. I think the PFA explained that the year Bale won it. It has never felt like a genuine explanation though as I'm pretty sure half of the PFA members themselves don't know what period the award is supposed to cover so as @Riandor says it ends up being a weird hybrid, but usually the winners look fair/reasonable enough.

The YPOTY is a weird one though - it's a bit daft that Coutinho is even still eligible for the award. Alli is the breakout star of the season but I've a suspicion that Kane will win it again.

Mahrez will win POTY. The fact that the shortlist for the senior award is so heavy with attacking players also means that it's likely one of the players in the shortlist won't even make the Team of the Year.

I can't find anything about this; care to share?

Our official site refers to it as this season: "Dele Alli and Harry Kane have been nominated for this season's Professional Footballers' Association (PFA) awards", while Wikipedia says it 's the football year: "The Professional Footballers' Association Players' Player of the Year (often called the PFA Players' Player of the Year, the Players' Player of the Year, or simply the Player of the Year) is an annual award given to the player who is adjudged to have been the best of the year in English football."

Only mention I find from the PFA Awards themselves is regarding young player of the year: "The cut-off age for the PFA Young Player of the Year award is 23 years old or under as at the beginning of the season (1st July 2015). "

Surprised they couldn't fit in Drinkwater, Morgan and Huth too. Chilwell must be pissed too, the second coming got shunned, but he'll be laugh when he wins the next 10 ballon D'Or's.
