I'm pretty sure that Gunter hasn't been registered for UEFA.

Why didn't we register him?

I must have the rules completely wrong (I always seem to with this competition).

We were allowed to register 3 new players in January, we couldn't register Hutton so surely we would have registered Woodgate, Gilberto and Gunter, no?

Hi Legend :) Apparently we registered Pekhart instead - now don't ask me why he wasn't already registered - Eddie Bailey tends to understand these things :)

Cheers DC.

A strong indication there then that the club were confident that Defoe would be leaving in January.

DC_Boy - the UEFA registration thang encourages clubs to have a quota of "homegrown" players, and their "homegrown" eligibility depends on the number of years they've been in a country and at a club.

So, Jamie O'Hara is great for us because he's English, and has been in our Academy since he was 16 or 17. Danny Rose on the other hand is young and English but has only been at the club since the summer, so he doesn't qualify as "homegrown". Despite being English. Rather stupidly.

So, the club was allowed to register three new players (to replace Gardner, Defoe & Stalteri). Woodgate and Gilberto were no brainers, and Hutton wasn't eligible. So, the third player basically came down to one of: Alnwick, Gunter, Dervitte, Rose and Pekhart. Interestingly, Pekhart got the nod - despite not impressing our regular reserve watchers.

My interpretation of this is that Juande thinks he had enough cover in defence and midfield, and decided he needed a big striker who can hold up the ball and link play in case, heaven forbid, our star Bulgarian gets an injury. Pekhart is of course a target man type of striker.

cheers yanno :) - I rephrase my answer to say Eddie Bailey and yanno understand these things :)

we discussed this a while back and while I never followed the nuances it was clear with JD gone/going JR & co decided striker was where we needed cover - and it wouldn't surprise me to see Pekhart feature from the bench next Thurs
