On the plus side, Roma fans say that Zaniolo lost weight and generally look sharper/faster this pre-season. He really bulked up last season so looked very slow & clumsy on the ball.

Zaniolo also just came back last year from his 2nd ACL tear in 8 months so understandably very behind on the development schedule. Hopefully he can fulfill his potential instead of going down as the next Antonio Cassano or next Mario Balotelli. Italy really needs offensive talent ASAP.

I’m not sure if to trust SC or Conte on this one.

Apparently he’s shit but I wouldn’t have thought we’d sign shit players on purpose.

Will probably just wait to see how he plays for us before getting emotional.

he looks like Lamala's bigger brother
Watching his highlights reminded me of watching Lamela’s Roma clips before we signed him. Seems like he can beat a player but the worry is that he wouldn’t be able to pull that off with the pace of our league so would his dribbling be that effective?

I can’t really judge as I don’t remember ever seeing him play and I’m sure there’s probably lots more to his game.

I would hazard a guess that 99% of the people slating him have never watched him outside of a youtube compilation/couple of games. Ive not watched him personally so if we do sign him I will wait to form an opinion. Kulusevski made me look silly and Id rather not judge so quickly again lol.

He missed the entirety of the 20/21 season don't forget. To come back at all and perform like he did in the ECL isn't to be sniffed at imo. And he played the most games of his career so far last year.

It is annoying me how often the ‘conte wants him so he must be good’ or ‘nobody wanted kulusevski and bentancur and look how they’ve turned out’ lines are being trotted out in this thread. People are allowed to think Zaniolo would be a bad signing without being met by a mass of Conte/Paratici apologists. Both of them have made massive blunders squad building in the past and will make more in the future. As far as I’m concerned, Zaniolo would be a pretty terrible signing and a super disappointing end to the window. Maddison is 5x better.
I’m really not sure how you can post this as if it’s fact! Bizarre comment really.

Trust FP and Conte.

I'm really hoping we get Maddison and know nothing about this guy bar his injury situation.

So you’re annoyed by people saying that, which generally, is in response to people saying what you’re trotting out.
You get annoyed, they get annoyed.

Allowed v Allowed ?

I’m sure we’ll all get over the conflicting onions :D

Yes but it’s not really constructive to just respond with ‘well conte wants him’. Most in here can’t actually give a reason why Zaniolo as a player/profile would be a good addition for us in response to people explaining why they don’t want him. I know (and rightly) so love Conte but I don’t see why posters can’t evaluate players objectively instead of hiding behind the fact that the manager wants him.

I haven't seen him play, so not gonna pretend I have. His two ACL tears do worry me though and for an attacking player to get just 2 league goals in 28 games isn't....great.

So I do worry about how his knee injuries have affected his future output and also picking up 8 injuries, albeit not very long ones as he only missed 11 games with them, does make me worry about his injury proneness.

I do however trust Conte and if we can get him on a loan with option to buy then I'll take that. Having said that I'd prefer Maddison but appreciate that's a much more difficult deal to do with Leicester's reluctance to let him leave and therefore I understand the price tag will be rather substantial.

For Conte, its always the system and its always whether a particular player can bring a certain skillset to a position in system which he can tap. Its not about whether that player is good or bad....

Most of signings are bought for Conte , to fit Conte system, where he drills them to repeatable plays. So, its not 'conte wants him so he must be good' but more like 'Conte wants him, so he sees a player that can enhance the efficiency of system' - Belief here is on Conte & his system and its not a verdict on player. Thats a big difference. And this is not being Conte/Paratici apologists.

If club is backing getting the players Conte want to suit his style , it means, club is fully trusting him. When he leaves, we may have to transition some players out as new manager may not be able to use them in same manner.

Thats the poison pill we are ok to take now. So come on board to enjoy the journey or sulk around saying its a disappointing window -choice is yours.

Tbf, people defended Bergwijn to the hilt despite his 3 league goals last season and 1 (one) the season before. Not to mention Lucas. He delivered when it mattered.

I'd take him on a loan, if he's the one Conte and Fab really want.

I'm not sure I've really seen an awful lot of this aside from "didn't he hurt his knees once" or "he's a poobag with poo in it and the poo smells".

I think it wouldn't be beyond the realms of reasonableness to say that most people in the thread have never seen him play, have made a snap judgment that he's injury prone and because he's not the shinier thing immediately dismissed him as terrible. I'm not saying you necessary think that way, I'm suggesting a potential way that you and/or other people may have come to a negative opinion about him.

Not sure I get those saying not fit for the Prem? He is a strong, big kid who appears to have pretty good technical ability. He would fit right in.
