Thought there should be a thread solely about the new potential Director of Football. I’m really interested in learning a bit more but it all gets lost in the next manager and painful rebuild threads.

As far as I can make out the following have been linked:

Johannes Spors
Tim Stiedten
Tiago Pinto
Lee Dykes
Markus Krosche
Monchi
Cristiano Giuntoli

For those who know better - is there a common philosophy? Can we rule some out? From my limited knowledge Stiedten would be preferable as he would dovetail with the club’s financial preferences, but not sure which one would deliver the football we all want?

Good thread. I have no clue tbh, not that clued up on the DofF’s.

Would be interesting as you say to understand from someone who knows which of these would be the best candidates, why each is being considered and what style of football or signings they prefer.

Article in the Guardian about our search

Tottenham’s search for a sporting director continues. A lack of clarity over who could fill the role prompted Julian Nagelsmann to tell the club he was not able to consider taking the manager’s job.

Is this more specific information than we've had before?

...so if we sorted out the DOF role and appointed Steidten (for argument's sake)

Then could we potentially revisit Nagelsmann if that information is correct?

Yes I know, I'm massively clutching at straws.

Maybe, but it's probably more complicated than that. If there was a possibility it could still happen then the club wouldn't have briefed journalists on Nagelsmann.

So yeah, happy to hear that it sounds like DoF first, I think? That’s like the most basic shit (DoF picking a manager that matches with their talent ID and playing style) so for me that’s encouraging and makes me feel like it can’t be the case and we will probably not do the most obviously right thing.

Hope we have a thought behind who we go for, that we have a vision of what we want to be and select a DoF that can follow up and build according to it. Not just go for a status name - and find out he want defensive football and depend on agents to target and sign players.

I’ve a feeling we are quite far down the line with this and the reason Nagelsmann turned us down is because he doesn’t want to work with who we are going to appoint.

Or the DoF doesn’t want to work with Nagelsmann…

Yeah there’s always that, I didn’t think of it that way around.

If it is Steiden then I’ve got to assume he hasn’t been announced because we want to do it at the same time like with Santini and Arnesen. Levy flew out to Germany a good week or so ago, if he met Steiden then, the journalists are either well behind the curve or the appointment won’t be him (if they met of course).

That would make sense.

But as we've taken the bizarre stance to publicly distance ourselves from him (and lie about not contacting him), I can't see him wanting to listen to us in the future even if he likes the new DoF.

At the point they went to Germany I think it was all Nagelsmann talk, and then the Alonso curve ball, only a few on here mentioned it might be DOF related.
