One big constraint you haven't mentioned though

Space.

The stadium is pretty tightly constrained in all directions, so many designs you might like simply cannot fit into the footprint of the land available.

Stade Velodrome wasn't exactly flush for space, about the same as us I'd say:

My main concern has always been the pitch. Similar stadiums that have been able to move the pitch out in sections have been prone to cut up pretty badly. They're probably aware of these examples and the relevant people/technology Id hope have the solutions... But for the amount of money being sunk into it I'm expecting us to have the best pitch around, the premiere surface. Absolutely pristine. I understand we may need those revenue streams, but I will be annoyed if our grass football pitch suffers due to accommodating NFL or whatever else we hope to be staged.

How often would it have to be moved though? 2 nfl games mostly in the summer a couple of concerts?

Spot on. Space is at a premium in London. To maximise revenue from the project we were always going to pack in as much as we could to offset the cost.

Am I the only one who is a bit disappointed with the design of the new stadium?

I think we had a chance to do something architecturally different but we seem to have gone for a very safe and pretty boring design.

Should have got Bentaleb to do it!!

I'm happy with our design, in fact our stadium, from an asthetic point of view, will be about sightlines on a much restricted scale.
Other stadia such as the Nice pictured above and the Allianz are set in their own area and when you approach you see the whole stadium but with our new stadium you will only see a length of one side until you actually reach it and by then its too close, in which case it is only right and proper that the design doesn't waste effort on trying to impress from a distance but has a wow factor close up, it is the centre piece of the development but is on the High road and so can't stick out like a carbuncle, it needs to enhance surrounding buildings or at least not detract from them, The Allianz for example, good as it is, would In my humble opinion, look wrong on our footprint.

Has anybody got any ideas as to whether there are any contingencies (for want of a better phrase) in the stadium plans for a potential increase of capacity at some point in the future? I am well aware that 61,000 is quite enough to be getting on with, but it would be foolish, surely, to not future proof this investment...

If safe standing is legalised, the capacity could increase by 1800, but apart from that, I don't think there's much wiggle room for an increase.

It appears to be designed with an almost coffering effect, combined with mirror-like reflective surfaces.

I don't think any 2D rendering could do that justice. If it ends up as I think it will, it will have a stunning shimmering appearance. This stadium will come alive with light and movement, because the whole exterior design appears to be a combination of shade and reflection. I suspect this will be amplified by the use of well-placed additional lighting.

Call me old fashioned but I think there is almost a civic duty when building something as iconic as a major sports stadium to make it architecturally valuable. I think our new design just looks a bit "groovy airport terminal building".

What's wrong with a 'groovy airport terminal building' style? For someone who spends 4 weeks of every month flying to and from work, I see a lot of groovy airport terminal buildings which I like immensely and a lot of naff ones which piss me off. Not only are they ethically displeasing but the majority are functionally fucked. For some reason bad exterior design usually results in crap interior design. It must be the architects not being able to walk and chew gum at the same time.

Is there a picture somewhere? Is it not the big shiny thing anymore? I quite like the one below. It's not the bird's nest admittedly, but without spending ridiculous cash I think it looks pretty cool

Its a f*ckin huge flying saucer innit!

I much prefer it to Chelsea's. Abramovich must have been on drugs when the approved that design. It looks very Reichstag or Brandenburg Gate. Something Hitler and Martin Bormann would have thought up while drinking peach schnapps with Albert Speer and listening to Wagner while Eva Braun brought out some freshly baked Schwarzwalder Kirschtorte and Vanillekipferl.

the local window cleaners will be rich keeping it clean, I wander if any Spurs supporting 1 will be doing the top windows during a match?

For what it's worth, I think the Chelsea design (on the exterior) is stunning and I hope that ours will look better in the flesh than it does on paper/screen.

However, where I think our stadium will be exceptional is the interior. The wall or kop (whatever you want to all it) should be amazing and the proximity of the stands to the pitch and also the rake should show the Olympic Stadium up as the nightmare it is.

Can almost imagine getting ITK updates from someone cleaning Levy's office window. Sort of like that guy who used to hang out in a tree near the training ground.
