http://gianlucadimarzio.com/en/calciomercato/roma-is-interested-in-dembele-for-the-midfield/

[Di Marzio] Roma continues to look for ways to add depth since they will be back in the Champions League next season. Their new target for the midfield is Tottenham’s Dembele’, the giallorossi’s sporting director Sabatini really likes the Belgian midfielder, in the past he was seen as an alternative to Pjanic. While Roma has yet to make a concrete offer they are very interested in Dembele’.

I do think he may struggle in Poch's high-pressing, quick-passing midfield because he doesn't release the ball quickly enough or press the opposition that well, and he hasn't got the greatest vision. But few are more technically talented than Mousa and couple that with his fantastic athleticism, it would be a shame not to see if he can adapt to the new manager's tactics with the right coaching.

I love to watch him play, but I feel he contributes very little to the team. Way too often he slows the play down, or keeps the ball too long.

With the rumours of Banega being available for 5 mil then I'd be inclined to cash in on Dembele and get Ever in. We'd be certain to make a profit and go some way to address the lack of creativity from the centre midfield area.

Edit: As much as I like Dembele's ability on the ball, I'd much rather see our midfield move the ball around with as few touches as possible than take players on in deep, pointless positions.

I tend to agree. Like I said in the OP, Dembele has superb ability, but his lack of passing range and vision can be detrimental to the side as a whole, as he plays in such a pivotal position. We've lacked that calm presence in the centre ever since selling Modric, a player who'd make himself available for a pass constantly, a 'metronome', controlling the tempo of the match. Banega is capable or reproducing this and for £5m, you can't go too wrong. Unbelievable that he's still only 25/26.

I'd still like to see if Poch can improve Mousa's game, but if we receive a sizable bid, I think we'll consider it for some of the reasons above.

I'd definitely be up for cashing in on him and replacing him with someone who can pass the ball a bit - a Banega or Schneiderlin.

Maybe both if Sandro is sold to Napoli

On a personal level I'd be very unhappy to see Sandro go, but as far as on the pitch I'd be delighted with a No 6 pairing of Capoue and Schneiderlin sharing time.

We should cash in mainly because of his chronic Hip injury. I can only see it getting worse for him because his style of play involves quick lateral movements and using his body to shield/win back the ball.

I actually think Dembele is another player that can get some revitalization under Poch. I think he can press well enough and maybe even slot into the role that Steven Davis had with Southampton. Except Dembele is a much better player than Davis is.

The key with Dembele is getting him over his hip issues and then helping him find his form.

Selling him would be a real mistake IMO, kind of strange how this idea of him being unable to press has taken hold, when we signed him it was on the back of a performance over Man Utd where he pressed the hell out of them.

He's also been looking quite good now for Belgium, so I'm a little apprehensive about selling him before we get to see what he does with a real manager.

I remember from some ITK some time ago that he refused surgery in order to fight for his spot in the Belgium World Cup squad. If surgery is required after the World Cup then this could be a no go. Agree with a lot that has been said above. In recent memory, Mousa's best game was playing as a RWF...anyone remember that?!

Dembele is the only player in our squad that can receive a pass in a tight space and keep it.
Not only keep it but carry it, 20, 30, 40 yards up the pitch. He may only pass 2 yards to one side, but what he did was effectively pass it 40 yards on to someone's toe.

Nice player on his day. Thats it really; ineffective and injury prone. we wouldn't miss him.

Sadly he does very little with it.

Dembele should be one of the first out the door imo, slows attacks down, far too indecisive, far too indirect and far too inconsistent at any decent level. A player who flatters in the odd game to deceive in so many
While we may be able to still get a reasonable fee we should try and offload, good news if we have interest in him

We need a Carrick or Modric type midfielder - who has ability to keep ball under pressure and has ability to pick a pass to bring in the forwards. Dembele can keep the ball, but cannot make quick passes.

I don't mind selling Dembele, if it means we get a CM who has wide range of passing.
