Gard's replying to someone on twitter asking if the alternative was 'home grown' ..

"Yes" ...

?

I beg it's not Tarkowski or someone like that... would much rather wait untill Jan or next summer to get a better player

Isn’t Darmian a FB? Not sure what difference that would make to Skriniar

I imagine they'll use him similarly to how they use Kolarov (also a FB), but on the right side of the back three. Hakimi is their right wing back

Here’s hoping if it opens up the door for us to come in

I don't really know how good Tarkwoski is, to be totally honest. Could be like Hojbjerg, where we think he'd be better in a better team?

The only players I can think of that it could be are Tarkwoski or John Stones?! (surely not)

Unless they're foreign but trained in England, to which I have no idea.

Tarkowksi would actually help in that he’s HG. Right now, we’re over our foreign player limit by like 2

He would cost pretty much the same as Skriniar though. If he was like 20m then yeah fair enough I could see it.

But definitely not for the money Burnley would want for him.

Trying to get a cut price deal for Maguire while his stock is low?

Makes sense in a high line, you want a defensive FB who fills in that wide gap on the left and right with your central cb working with the midfielders centrally. You typically see teams with the 3-4-3 have the two deep midfielders covering the CB gaps as the RCB/LCB cover the wide space with a 5 behind the ball, 5 infront set up.
