No offense but I think that’s crazy, Nuno loved Doherty at Wolves he understood the system and did everything that was asked of him and then some. It’s really likely we sign a new RB if we can ship out Aurier, but especially in the first part of the season while players are learning our new setup I think we’ll be seeing a lot of Doc.

I sincerely hope not.

We definitely need a new right back and Aarons appears to have been on our radar a long time.

10M to Wolves, but 6M in fees paid to Jorge Mendes, who happens to be Nuno’s agent. And Doherty’s agent. And our manager’s agent. And a close friend and business partner of Wolves owners who dictates a great deal of their transfer business, which Nuno never had all that much control over.

But no, you’re right, I’m sure it was all completely above board and Nuno simply wanted rid of him. After all, he’d only played him in 36 Premier League matches in 2019 and 38 in 2018 and hit him with such vicious criticisms as “Matt is amazing. He has been massive for us I’m very, very happy with him.” And I’m sure he was so thrilled to be rid of Doherty that he didn’t mind not having a half-decent right back until the end of September when Wolves signed another Mendes client (what a shock) for 30m who proceeded to pick up exactly one assist and one goal (against Man Utd’s youth team the last week of the season).

Anyway, Aarons (y)

Norwich will rightly demand silly money for him so unless one of these fabled exchanges, which never actually happen outside of FM or Fifa, is done then he will be out of our price range.
Depending on whether Nuno goes for back 3 or not we might not need a first choice as Doherty will be still here and is a very good wing back but poor RB. Although we struggle to put out one decent CB last season so unless we buy 2 this window it's hard to see us going with a back 3

Unlikely, but would be nice if some sort of deal could be worked involving Tanganga joining on a 1 or potentially 2 year loan deal?

not ideal for Norwich, but these players all gave them a chance last time and they went straight down, so maybe now they’ve got them up first time they’ll honour them and allow them to leave, using the money to rebuild the team.

from their perspective, losing Aaron’s is a blow, but gaining 25-30m plus Tanganga (Prem and European experience) for 12 months could help them in the CB or RB dept, so they could use 20-25m to spend on a striker?

put a ludicrous option to buy (40m??) in there, but Tanga comes back to us in a years time hopefully with 30 games under his belt, fills Toby’s boots?

If I were Norwich that’d be a hard offer to turn down

Depending on the defensive signings we make this summer, I could see a loan to Norwich being a good idea.
no option to buy though (and I think the fees you’re expecting are a bit high).
Personally I think Tanganga is made for the rcb position, but if he’s behind both kounde and tomoyasi then getting him playing is vital.
Wouldn’t rule out Brighton either, especially if they sell Ben white. That’s another team who play in a back three and would be a good environment for him.

a) we dont have £30m
b) we wont pay £30m
c) he will go to utd
We won’t be going crazy on transfer fees but I sincerely doubt we’re unable to spend £30m on the right player should we wish. That may not be Aarons, or it may be him, but just because we’re not in a position to go breaking transfer records doesn’t mean we’re restricted just to the donations trolley by the doors in Tesco.

If Nuno gets Doherty playing like he did at wolves, then Doherty and Aarons would be a good RB pair who can swap every couple of games, and sell Aurier.

Ok thanks. Not the most elaborate response but succinct enough to make your point.
however, as you don’t appear to be ITK it seems ok to probe a bit further.
a) we’ve been told we are skint- but also the opposite. Their are funds available. What are you basing this on?
b) as above, we’ve been told that funds are available. We’ve been linked with Sabitzer (approx £20mil), Andersen (approx£15mil), Tomoyasi (approx £18mil). We need a rb. We need HG. Aarons value is somewhere between £20-30mil. It’s plausible that we might go for him. We’ve been linked for 12months+. How do you know the club don’t value him accordingly?
c) what links have there been for him to go to united? They already have wan bissaka so seems an unlikely position for them to need to strengthen.
What do you know that changes this?

You sound so certain so presumably you know otherwise. Where are you getting this information? We’re all here eager to find out as much early info as we can.
I hope you’re not just dismissing it out of hand because, y’know, that’s what always happens at spurs.

This probably should have been done last summer after they got relegated.

I read somewhere that Aarons has a gentleman's agreement that he can leave this summer as a reward for being loyal when they were relegated. Not sure how true, but would make sense as I'm sure he could easily have left last summer but ended up spending a year in the Championship.

Edit: Here's the link

I wouldn't mind keeping Aurier a season if we are struggling to find a team and see how Aaron's has developed.

If they go down again, I'm sure someone will pick him up.
