Can't argue with that mate.

Just based upon our last few posts, it does seem that RB isn't necessarily our biggest area of concern when it comes to trying to fix the holes in our squad with a Covid induced budget.

I think it boils down to -

Sell Aurier and Foyth
Sign say Max Aarons (picking an option out of thin air just for example sake)

Then we will have Doherty, a new player and Tanganga to rely on for our RB options.

I can't see anyone signing Aarons now they've won promotion.

I don't think it's a problem if we're prepared to jiggle formations around to suit the players we have on the books. I think we would have been much stronger with a back 3 and wingbacks for the past few years but it didn't ever happen. We were trying to use wingbacks as fullbacks the whole time which exposed defensive fragilities game after game, not only on the flanks but at CB as well. Whoever the new manager is, I hope he's prepared to compromise on what setup he prefers to get the best out of the players we already have, at least in the short term.

Not the one I'd wanted anyway, but used him as an example as he was the first to pop to mind. I doubt he'll be moving unless there is a big offer on the table for Norwich.

I think they'd have to get enough money to rebuild enough to ensure they'd stay up. Probably AWB money, but I don't see him as worth it.

I don't really know of any decent ones out there, which is the main reason Conte would have appealed - he can use any old shite pretty well in those positions, based on his past teams.

Perfect, we can keep the ones we've got then.

Exactly.

I openly admit I'm not the brightest bulb, and seem to have been wrong with previous posts that suggested I felt the ball was in our court, so to speak.

However, people that corrected me, told me that the ball was well and truly in Foyth/Villareals court, as they have the option to decide whether he stays there.

So, please explain to this idiot. Unless they pay the fee that they happily agreed to when they signed the loan agreement. How do Foyth or Villareal hold the ace's here?

I just don't get it. They either pay the fee, or he comes back, surely?

It's already a ridiculously low fee for such a player. Why the hell would we even contemplate negotiating if they seek a lower fee?

It's pretty simple: any time until the start of next season, Villareal can send Levy a EUR 15m cheque and Foyth becomes their player. Nothing we can do about it really. That was the original loan deal - they wouldn't have agreed in the first place to pay his wages and loan fee if they didn't get that purchase option.

Now, La Liga distributes the money pretty unfairly so Villareal will probably spend all summer calling Levy saying "how about 11m?" "how about 11.8m?" etc... and if Levy says no to everything (it's Levy after all), they'll probably pay the full 15m at the last possible second, since they now have the CL money coming.

Foyth has to agree to it as well and we could, if we wanted, probably offer him more money than Villareal want to.

So you've basically just confirmed everything I've been attempting to get across since my very first post about him.

If Villareal don't stump the agreed €15M before the start of next season, Foyth will remain a THFC player.

That's been my whole point. They agreed to the fee, so they pay it or fuck off.

I think the issue is that Foyth has only a year left on his contract and is unlikely to renew. Villareal and Foyth feel that that puts them in a bargaining position.

...Or he could bring the not so old, not so shite Hakimi from Inter with him. :D (y)

Playing against Chile now, what's up with his eyes? Looks like he painted them or has he been in a fight?

Looks like Villareal have activated buy option. Shame, I think he has great potential and, if it is Fonseca, would fit into his tactics well given he’s good on the ball.

He was never coming back, not after winning a trophy and securing CL football. He will most likely be Villareal starting RB in the league and Champions league and those opportunities and minutes will pretty much guarantee he'll be a mainstay for his national team as well.

with the state of our backline we could have used him, still young with lots of potential.

There's £2million for the transfer fund.... and the rest for Levy & Lewis. Shame he wasn't given an opportunity better than what we have at the moment.
