I think he misread our capability. Thought we were the third best team in the country, and with a few tweaks could make the difference. Instead we were a team in serious decline.

Should have given Poch a bell before signing :D

100% He was quite vocal on Sky earlier in the season how good he thought this squad was. He didn’t see the fissures beneath the surface at all.

But he is not going to get a full pre season. He is getting one month to sort this mess out.

But he's also had time with these players now, we had a 9 day rest between the spam game and this and 3-4 weeks before the season restarted, not to mention time after the season was suspended, obviously he couldn't get on the training ground, but he must have been doing some sort of work with them.

He also has everyone fit and available, I would have liked to have seen more than what we have.

I'll still giving him time, but I won't use a shortened preseason as an excuse for next season.

I’m still confused as to why Jose took the job? I know some will say there are 15m reasons, but he could have got that anywhere.

I can only presume he got fed up of being labelled a manager who could only achieve with money available, but the reality is he’s always been able to spend ( yes, even at Utd ), yet that was never on the cards here.

I’m not one of those fans that isn’t prepared for my team to win ugly, but the crux of the matter is the Jose way is ok if you’re winning and you can have some success.

If you don’t though, it will get old pretty quickly.
He took the job because someone was prepared to pay him £15m a year.....

I agree with you totally. I was just pointing out that he won't have a full preseason to put things right so he best get it sorted quickly.

I attacked Jose in the match thread but my anger has since shifted to the squad. Poch couldn’t motivate them and get them playing. I find that pretty abhorrent from the squad considering he turned most of them into the players they are and ultimately they cost him his job.

Jose has since come in and has tried to fix our defence on the assumption that our attack is good enough to fix itself and it’s left us with the same issues. Players that can’t attack or defend and generally don’t seem to give a fuck whether we win or lose.

I don’t think any manager is going to be a success at this club until there is a MAJOR overhaul.

Rather than blame Jose is it not levy’s fault for not backing poch ? Might as well sell our best players and stick to mid table if levy doesn’t back the manager

Mourinho would waste him. Kane has the ball in the net 4 times tonight. Once it counted due to various circumstances. Truth is he’s still class but he’s not getting the service which fulfils his abilities.
Very true! Which also makes me think he might leave this summer, unfortunately.

Levy and co are to blame for this.

They brought in Mourinho, blindly thinking the team were good enough, but just needed a new face. And a winner in Mourinho would get the team winning again. They were wrong.

And now the man they brought in, who notoriously needs a fortune to put together a successful side. Will need another fortune he's never gonna get.

Mourinho was the wrong man for the job, simply because he was never gonna get what he needs to be successful here. And the club have left themselves in a position of either giving him funds to get who he wants and needs, or the club just falling further.

Can’t believe half of you saying he needs to rebuild the squad. He wouldn’t be near the club and lord pochettino would still be here if that was the case

Agree with this mate squad aren’t good enough in terms of quality and also mainly attitude. We need some real leaders and winners through the door.

How was Poch not backed in the summer?

(Although the roots of the problem go back to when the stadium was being built and no one was bought).

Maybe not but he's not had a fair crack so far.

I'll be more than jumping on the band wagon if it's still like this 10 games into next season, but until then he deserves at least a bit of leeway.
But hard to see how he can get us back up there without some significant spend. We could probably do with a complete new back four and that is not an exaggeration

I can see man city going in big for him, Aguero and Kane to get them back the League title. Guaranteed medals and a boat load more medals. It’s gonna happen. Gabriel Jesus isn’t Aguero‘s replacement. Kane will be.

I know that this is going against the grain and that everyone is understandably emotional right now. But, in some respects, I don't believe that what we just witnessed was such a terrible all round performance.

Sure, there were three howlers at the back that cost us dearly. And I concede that that is what counts. Football - all sport, even - is about pivotal moments and the best make sure that those pivotal moments go their way. On such criteria, today's game was a categorical failure.

But I was encouraged by the way that the team tried to play, at least. Dominated possession. Passed and moved well. The intention was positive. But we were badly let down by the final ball. We worked so many good positions down the flanks but not once - not one single, fucking time - did Aurier or Davies put in a good final ball. Absolutely crucified us. We need good full backs. Desperately. If we had them now, we would have won that game. Comfortably.

This one isn't on Mourinho.
