We are such a mess as a club. Don’t have any major issue with Lingard per se, but I’m really not sure what it accomplishes and certainly doesn’t represent any sort of defined strategy. Still feels like we just bounce wildly from one hare brained idea to the next.

We have no idea if this is true. How do we not know Conte isn't the one behind this? Given he wanted the likes of 34-year-old Kolarov, Victor Moses, and United reject Matteo Darmian when he was at Inter, it's not beyond the realms of possibility that Lingard is a legitimate target.

If I had the time I would be searching this thread for all negative reactions and quoting them back to the people that now think this would be a great signing..

I don't particularly rate him, but he head one hell of a purple patch last seson at West Ham. If he could string together performances like that more often then I'd be more enthusiastic

I think the 'news' is a mixture of English journalists putting 2 and 2 together to get 5. Plus, Paratici will undoubtedly be looking at the free transfers and seeing who he and Conte think will fit into the Conte system and are better than what we currently have. Lingard fits Conte's 3-4-3 better than Dele. If we can get Lingard for free. We can sell Dele for a fee. That seems like good business to me.

And the same applies to replacing Ndombele (fee) with Kessie (free). And Winks (fee) with Brozovic (free). And Rodon (fee) with Romagnoli (free) and ..... .

And all those fees add up to a Vlahovic sized amount.

Beeb ticker today is saying we are speaking to him about a free at the end of the season.

If it's true (only just seen this thread) I personally wouldn't have the slightest issue.

Fuck it, I'd happily see us pay a small fee right now because I see little to no chance of the likes of GLC, Bergwijn, Winks & Dele being able to show/produce more.

Did he play much while at United?

Looking at Transfermarkt, seemed to be on the bench a lot.

Wonder why? He seemed to do well at West Ham.

Fergie knew the score mate (scarily accurate prediction)

Typical Levy strategy: whatever's cheapest.

If he came he’d be on the ‘can go if the right offer comes in’ list after about 3-4 windows. But he’s a new face so people will clamour for him. This is the type of signing if Everton or Newcastle made it, we’d all be laughing like see, that’s why they are where they are as a club.

My worry with Lingard is he could have capitalised on a great six months at WHAM but has completely lost the momentum he gained from that by wasting yet another season.

I wouldn't mind him though, certainly an upgrade than Dele. Those wage demands if true can fuck off though.

I wouldn't pay him 200K/wk and def not willing to pay a transfer fee of more than 4-5M for him if he's going to be on a free in 6 mo. He's not that guy.

Waste of a transfer in my opinion. He's OK, no more. Like Dele but a bit more dynamic.

There are vastly better players out there that we could get.

Yeah I’ve got grave reservations over this one tbh. I don’t think he is very good at all. Guess we will have to see though

Well if rediscovers the form he showed at West Ham then he is a hell of a better option than bergwin. Could play either side or behind Kane . For the price now or on a free in the summer would definitely be a good signing in my opinion

I personally think he is a massive dickhead. I will back him if he signs but I don't like him.

Not massively in love with this link, but I've always thought there will be some left wing targets with Conte, in that we will all be disappointed being linked with, like Kolorov.

And we have to back him.
