Not every player from our academy will have a prolonged career at Spurs. But if Townsend is sold in January, Pritchard will be coming back to fitness then and will take his place. If Carroll moves on, Winks will get further opportunities. That's not even taking into account some of the younger prospects coming through who are maybe a year or two away from the first team, like Walker-Peters, Carter-Vickers, Oduwa etc.
I think more will not make than make it, I think it's extremely difficult for youth to get opportunities when there is pressure on the coach to achieve things as fast as possible, rotation is a tricky business especially when the team is doing well i the league. If he rotates and it doesn't work out then there is a backlash.

Youngest squad, most club trained players and also the 3rd highest percentage of Internationals in the Prem, that percentage is despite the first two stats, net spend and wages.

A world class academy with one of the top reputations in the UK, perhaps Europe. A new stadium on the way. An overhaul of our back room staff and a Manager who dictates and believes in this organic growth.

The future is bright.

The future's been bright for a while now. About time it's gotten here. Sick of the false dawns. I need us to do the quadruple within 20 years

The difference now is that our youth set up cast offs are having Premiership/Championship careers rather than League 1/2, or even dropping out of the league.

I have no doubt that the standard of our youth has risen considerably in the last 10-15 years, to the point where, even if they are not top 4 quality, they can do a job in the squad. And if they don't want to be squad players we are able to sell them for £5million+.
I agree with that mostly, I think there may be some disagreement about who can do a job in our squad amongst supporters. I think supporters generally are unwilling to wait to see if a young player is going to come good.

Remember when we used to sign young English talent, then we stopped? Interesting article here.

How are people sure that the current strategy will be continued once the new stadium is built or even before then if Poch has to go for some reason?

We aren't sure.

We're living in the moment.

Come join us Mullers...it's honestly more fun than sitting on the sidelines waiting for the next disaster so that you can unleash your next anti-Levy tirade.

I promise you.

Sound scouting base and new club philosophy on buying young hungry talent is proving doubters wrong so far. Long may it continue. Add a smattering of experience and hey-presto we are proving all the pundits wrong.

Dier, Alli...
As a clear transfer strategy?

No, we just have bought two in two years. What's going on now is a commitment to produce players through the academy which is already a 10 year old program, not something that's just going to get thrown out with a manager. In fact, the manager will be chosen to go along with the philosophy I would think.

Chelsea's club trained seems high. Surely they've only got Terry who is club trained?

Not to the same level as when Jol was manager, but between Kyle Walker and Eric Dier the only young English player we signed was Zeki Fryers, and it's not to say there weren't players who could have been targeted available.

But yes, whereas 10 years or so ago we were having to completely rebuild the squad and didn't have many academy players coming through, we are now at the point where we could see one or two being promoted each season. So while it may not be our overarching transfer strategy, it is still a policy to buy good, young English players when available.

This thread was going well, I enjoyed the opening post but then... Mullers Ahoy, batten down the hatches. Too late, the depression has swept over me :(

Levy's long term planning coming good.

I will side with Droopy Dog @Mullers here and say it's a bit much to say that 12 games into a season we can say that Levy had this planned all along.

Let's be honest his strategy since being chairman has flitted from one approach to another, so to attribute this to a long term plan may be overplaying it a bit.

But yes the Academy is obviously doing well, which has been a long term strategy, and that will all be helped by the impressive training facilities which were also part of a longer term plan.

Have we started buying English talent again?
We have because now we have installed a proper scouting system which has been able to spot English talent at a cheap price. When we hired Ramos, AVB and Redknapp, I think there was little thought given to long term strategy. Ramos and AVb were brought in to get quick success and Redknapp was a stopgap that turned out to be one of our best managers.
