But why would they spend 10-15m on a player like winks to play the odd game here and there? They'd be better spending that same money on a young prospect with a far higher ceiling. Winks has peaked, he's not getting any better, if he's not going to be a starter for you then there's really no reason to sign him over a 19/20/21 year old prospect.
Everton bought Dele from us. There's a club for Winks if he wants it, either here or in Europe.

And now they're looking to move him on.

Completely different examples as well, if you could unlock the Dele of 3/4 years ago you'd have a 10-15 goal midfielder, if you could unlock peak winks, you'd have a fairly adequate CM.

But you're right, I'm sure he could get a move to a PL club, that wasn't really the point. The point is he wouldn't do well there. IMO.

Of course all Spurs fans do, I should have clarified other clubs fans. I don’t think many fans realise how good he was as they don’t watch him week in week out like we did.
I know we had some fairly decent partners for him over the years but if we could've got a really top class CM to partner him we would have had zero weaknesses in that team (the one with Walker & Rose).

That is exactly the point as far as we are concerned. As with Dele, how he does when he gets there is up to him. But there has been interest in Winks from at least a couple of traditionally big Prem clubs who's first team squad he'd be settled in, but yet he's still here.

For sure I don’t want to go off topic, but as Dembele declined and eventually left our midfield suffered. He was such a great player so glad we signed him. To think I was not that excited when he joined but quickly discovered how wrong I was. All the players in our team and midfield were better when he was in the team.

I thought the only real interest was a tentative enquiry from Everton? and now they don’t seem keen and there is not much interest in him from the Premier League other that some opportunities to go abroad.

Everyone knows my opinion on him but we can't force him out. He has a contract and we have to honour it. From his POV I can sort of see why he's reluctant to go there have been other occasions where he's been cast aside only for mass injuries to hit or the manager being replaced and he's back in the fold. That won't be the case this time around though, and regardless of what happens we will still have 4/5 players who are better in his position.

If there's one player that epitomises the old Fergie quote "Lads it's Tottenham" it is Harry Winks.

How long has he left on his contract? I wonder if he's being dogmatic or just afraid of where his career will go when he does eventually leave or is sold.

Newcastle have been linked for a year or so now as well. If GLC, Gil, even Ndombele can see it, and are prepared to move away on loan to get football then there's no reason for Winks not to show some willing too.

I know many people on here didn’t like it, but I would have handed the number 8 shirt to someone else and really sent home the message we are moving on as a club and he needs to as well.

People were saying no because he has been a loyal servant, which is fine. But we are not a charity, we are a football club and it should be about competition. Competition against other teams and competition for the shirt and your place.

Winks needed to show more for a long time and it’s not like he hasn’t had the chance.
Yep I’d have given it to Bissouma.

Winks probably won’t even be in our 25 mean squad so seems pointless him having a shirt number tbh.

Thing is mate he could and should have gone on loan a couple of times prior to this window mate. He chose to stay and hardly play.

That's what I'm saying. I think he's a coward. It's been all too comfortable for him. Hopefully he sees the light and makes the change.

True. But not just Spurs fans, Dembele was also consistently highly rated by pundits and other professionals as well. Take the point about non-spurs fans perhaps.

Not to criticise Conte but I think when Antonio waxed lyrical about him when he came in last season that must have fed his delusion a fair bit. He probably thinks he's above Sarr at the very least and will be well aware of how fragile Skipp is looking atm. Then he's also looking at the fixture list and he still thinks he can break his way back in imo. We have to tell him even the likes of Devine will be preferred and that needs to be backed up by action, not just telling him. Like I say, I still think with a few injuries Conte would prefer him to Sarr and Devine. I think the main thing that's been keeping him away from squads has been the uncertainty over his future. When that's over he probably moves up the pecking order as 5th choice.

I’m not sure he waxed lyrical about him. He said he could be trusted which is not the same thing iirc

He was an England Player (rightly or wrongly) when he was playing. I'm sure if he moves, it wouldn't be for a paycut. So bar zero ambition/fear of something new...he's mad to stay
