My issue is he wants to stay because he thinks he will play, it's world cup year afterall.

So when he doesn't play he's going to throw his toys at the pram. When does his contract run out? Can't wait for him to leave.

Maybe not being in the squad the next few games may make him rethink his desire to stay.
It does seem strange that we have apparently told him he is unwanted by us and unlikely to play much, if all all.

Then he apparently has offers from other clubs, so they must value him more than us.

Surely, if that is all correct, it is a no brainer for him to leave.

I am still away on holiday so haven't spoken to any of my contacts but my brother sent me a message saying he had unfollowed and did it mean anything?!

Other ITK are currently far more clued up than I am on a lot of things and they have suggested on here that he's being very stubborn to move on and so is likely to stay. But with Skipp, Hojbjerg, Dele and Lo Celso all in front of him, maybe even Sissoko and we may bring another in, his playing time will be almost non-existent. I know if I was a professional footballer and someone else me that with the World Cup next year, I would be off to prove myself elsewhere and try and force my way into Gareth's thoughts. He's no way good enough to get into that England team but if he wants to prove himself, he's going to have to do it elsewhere.
As per my above post, surely he realises all this and has to leave.

I thought you were allowed 17 non-HG players regardless, with the remaining 8 having to be HG. If you don't have 8 HG you can still have 17 non-HG, but obviously then you can't register a 25-man squad. That's my understanding anyway

my understanding is, for every HG player you have it allows you an additional non-hg player up to a certain point so if you only have 7 HG you can only register 16 non-hg for example

Mate, most of us are lifelong fans. Doesn't mean we should be playing for spurs. Harsh but fair, imo

He is apparently not wanted, so it is prob in his, and the clubs best interst he goes elsewhere.

I would still wish him well, like most of us.
There's no problem in trying to shift him but there's a big difference between doing that and banishing a player to the youth squad because they want to fight for a place.

Maybe that is the only way we can get the point across to him that his time is over with us

Unfortunate, but that is professional sport. Let's use his spot and any money we get for him for someone else.

As I mentioned, I wish Winks well.

No, you can always have 17 non-HG players, even if you have zero HG.

According to the PL Handbook, each club may submit a "list of up to a maximum of 25 Players eligible to participate in League Matches during a Season of whom a maximum of 17 may not be Home Grown Players".

Ah my mistake, a lot easier to deal with, just go with the smaller squad

Seems like a great way to treat a lifelong fan and academy player who wants to fight for the club.

It’s a tough business but he isn’t good enough. More to the point, he appears to be a disruptive influence. You need massive self belief to get to be playing for spurs and England, but his seems to have tipped into self delusion. He isn’t remotely good enough to be the playmaker for either, so best he goes somewhere else

If we are playing 433 we really don’t need more than 6 options. Hojbjerg Skipp Lo celso Dele that’s 4. Seems very likely 1 new is coming in. So really 2 of Ndombele Sissoko Winks need to go probably the later 2 or they are effectively 7th choice and will barely play. Plus you have Nile John and Devine who I think they will want to give some time.

He may want to stay but he is in for another nothing of as season if he does imo. Needs to look at the first game and see how Skipp, a 20 year old with minimal EPL experience, was picked/trusted ahead of him against the best team in the league. Writing is on the wall and the quicker he realises that and moves, the better it will be for his career.

No doubt Skipp will have his good and bad games as he learns but he is only 20 and so I'm fine with that. Winks on the other hand is 25 years, an England International with a good amount EPL games under his belt but I don't really see much of an improvement from since he first came on the scene tbh. Time is right for him to go elsewhere and for us to move on to.

There's only so many places available in any squad. If those spaces are filled by players the club deems more worthy of a spot, what else are they supposed to do with him if he refuses to leave?

He'd either have to play/train with the youth teams like Rose did, or be cast aside altogether.

There's nothing disrespectful about giving superior players a squad place that he's not good enough to fill. It's just the nature of the beast.

It seems, as far as the club is concerned, the ball is very much in Winks' Court. He either moves on for the sake of his career, or he becomes the forgotten man that Danny Rose became.

As per someone on r/coys he’s unfollowed Spursofficial on instagram. Could mean f all but would be a bit of a strange one to do that though.

Maybe somethings going on there.

Some people have said he never followed Spurs in the first place - idk what's going on.

Hope he leaves though!

did he ever follow them in the first place?

Even if he was moving, it's a weird thing to unfollow your boyhood club.

I hope we do get another in as we’re still a couple of injuries or fatigue away from having a pony central midfield again.

We definitely need another holding midfielder as if PEH and Skipp are both injured who plays then?

We’d be massively lacking an aggressive midfielder.
