I've been very critical of him but tonight against City he was immense. Worked constantly and had perfect defensive awareness - best match I've seen from him in for ages.

He hasn't been good defensively, but he was miles better than he had used to be.

Quality today, all over the place and plays for the badge. He is Spurs through and through.

He still gets drawn to the ball too much, and gets drawn out of position.

But seemed to have a bit more freedom today, and options to pass to.
Good game for the birthday boy ? hope he can keep that performance up

I think he and GLC both had issues with screening the back four where their indecisiveness almost lead to City goals. With that said, he made a number of very good tackles and passed through the lines well when options were available. As the first half wore on, there were less and less of those opportunities, so he hacked it away, which is fair as well.

I'm a bit critical of Winks, but thought he had one of his best games today. Very busy in midfield, and his interception and run, changed the game completely.

He has managed quite a few convincing performances against the top teams now. He was immense against Real Madrid a couple of years ago, outshining Modric (months before he won the Balon d'or) and Kroos.
After each significant injury, he seems to have taken half a season to get back to his best. I don't think the balance of our midfield did him any favours during Poch's last 1.5 seasons though.

I think if you asked Mourinho how he wants to see Winks play, this match would be the example. Good anticipation, constantly moving, staying busy. Definitely think he'd want to see the passing be a little more crisp, but felt like he gave the midfield the energy it needed.

Thought he played very well today. Yeah he misplaced a few passes but it's a difficult job in a very congested part of the field against a talented midfield.

Thought Winks had a great game tonight, and would have been my MotM if it hadn't have been for Lloris. I'll be honest and say that I think Winks has retreated into his shell in too many games for my liking - and on his bad days he's like Tom Carroll; a 'nothing' midfielder of the type that I really am not a fan of - but performances like today prove that he's definitely levels above Tom Carroll and well worth a place in our squad. More excellent showings like that, and I'll change my tune and say that he's worth a regular place in our starting XI. Would love to see that happen.

I always saw it, referred to it as Lennon type burst of pace.
