Jermain Defoe scored the 300th goal of his club career today. This is his 21st full season

Harry Kane has scored 214 goals in his club career so far. This is his 11th full season

It's not just winning a trophy that Kane is aiming for. By the time he retires I think he will be desperate to achieve the following...

1. All time Spurs top goal scorer
2. All time EPL top goal scorer
3. All time top goal scorer for England
4. Win a trophy at club level
5. Win a trophy at international level
6. Win the Ballon d'Or

If he leaves Spurs then the top 2 on that list are gone (assuming he goes abroad)

The only ones what would be easier are a trophy and Ballon d'Or but right now both are achievable at Spurs, especially with Jose in charge.

If Harry retires having achieved the top 3 on that list then he will go down in history, an FA cup or a Primera Liga winners medal won't do that.

And winning a trophy with Spurs will mean a lot more to him that with another club.

Finally, he is a real family man and uprooting a young family unnecessarily doesn't seem his style, so hopefully we will be at Spurs for many more years to come.
I genuinely think he's capable of not just overtaking Alan Shearer's all-time record for the PL, but reaching 300 PL goals, providing he plays long enough and looks after himself (which he does anyway), but I think that Greavsies's all-time record for England's top flight (357 goals) will be beyond even HK. I suspect that as he gets beyond his early/mid thirties, he'll be playing a playmaking role in midfield, but he'll still be good for several goals each season, not to mention quite a few assists. For the record, the most top flight goals for one club is 310 (from only 362 games), by Bill 'Dixie' Dean of Everton, a total that includes 60 from 39 games in 1927/28.

Almost sounds like he's suggesting we need to score that many in order to win.

I doubt it as he’d be publicly dragging his team in the mud. I think he’s just confident that with Son and Bale by his side we are capable of thrashing literally any team in the world.

He’s capable if he plays in the PL long enough, but he’s still over 100 away from Shearers total. 260 is still a very formidable total.

Hope he breaks all the records obviously.

I actually think that record could play a part in keeping Kane at Spurs. It's clear he cares a lot about breaking records so it's hard to see him moving to a club like Madrid if he's within reasonable distance of becoming the top scorer in PL history. He wants to win trophies of course, but I think going down in history as the top scorer in the history of the PL may mean more to him (and hopefully he'll win trophies at Spurs anyway).

Then take into account that we haven't sold anyone to a top 6 rival since Walker, and who is going to pay what Levy wants for Kane? Especially by the time he's 29-30.

I think Levy was very cute with the lengths of contract he offered to Kane and Son. They will want one last big contract but Levy set it up so that they'll be 29/30 when they enter the last 1-2 years of the contract and what other club is going to pay £100+ million for a 29/30 year old? No-one. The logical option therefore is to take the big fat contract offer from Levy and stick around at Spurs rather than going on a free aged 31.

His footballing i.q is incredibly high, just understands where the ball is going to land and is always a step ahead of the other players on the pitch, when he cleared that ball off the line it showed how intelligent he is right there.

3 games, 3 assists, 4 goals, not sure of our Brighton match will count for October or November but has to be the PL player of the month.

I think you would be shocked how clueless he looks as a centre-back (defensively, passing would obviously be amazing), at least the first couple of months. He is world-class as a '10' and striker though.

His work defending corners is so important. As a striker himself he knows where the attacking striker is going to put the ball. The spin off as soon as it's over his head knowing the ball is likely to come back the opposite direction shows his understanding.

I don't know about a midfield role, I think he's a player who thrives facing back at his team mates and then spinning off. There's a big difference to a midfielder who starts off deep to a forward who drops off deep. Maybe the loss of Eriksen has just made his passing role that much more key this season and he's smashing it.

Surely it’s

Hugo
Kane Toby Dier Son
Son Kane Kane
Son Kane Son

So far the Son/Kane axis is scoring at the rate of 2.2 goals per game. So I’ve got that in 4 times. Which means we’re scoring 8.8 goals per game.

I think Toby and Dier can keep the opposition to several fewer than that per game.
