Didn't do it in the 120 mins though where they were overwhelming favs to win.
The fact they were overwhelming favourites is more a symptom of the arrogance of the PL teams than the actual match up. Man Utd were favourites, they are the better team, but Villarreal are certainly no worse than say Everton or Arsenal, theyd probably think they’re better, and I don’t think Everton or Arsenal beating Man Utd would be seen as a massive bottle job or a shock, just something that happens in football sometimes. Favourites don’t always win

Great penalty shoot out that was :).

Oh, and Paul Scholes just said that Man Utd have and I quote “almost become a nice club that people like”.... are you gonna tell him or shall I?

Arsenal connection aside, he is very tactically astute and underrated. They were solid and stifled United all night (did the same to Arsenal in the semis). Haven't lost in the competition all season either I believe.
I think he's well suited to teams like Villarreal and Sevilla rather than PSG or Arsenal because he doesn't have to suffer with egos. It was rumoured Arsenal players mocked him and didn't respect him enough and I know that he struggled with Neymar being a diva.

Arsenal's pathetic performance in 2019 showed how they weren't listening to him.

He needs playerd who will listen and respect him, then you see how good he is as a coach.

If I was him Id stay with clubs at that level and clean up the domestic and European cups.

But they were favorites nonetheless.

OGS will never win anything at United.

He's got away with it this season but next season Tuchel will have Chelsea competing, Liverpool surely won't be as bad and dare I say it, Conte would have his number as well.

Yes but I think it’s hard to make a narrative out of it, though from a Man Utd perspective Ole not substituting players until extra time was bizzare. The was a point Man Utd were in control, not really threatening much but certainly the game was heading in their direction, Villarreal get new energy in and start being in control of the situation, and I think Man Utd not responding in kind was a mistake, to say the least,.

I don’t think he’s blameless but it’s not an embarrassment, and it’s the arrogance of some of the coverage which makes this victory sweeter but also is part of the reason people outside hate the PL clubs so much.

They should just rename this trophy the Emery League.

Outstanding record.

Not just because it’s Arsenal, but I find this incredible disgraceful. He seems like a nice bloke and obviously a talented coach. To defy and mock your boss, in any professional setting, when they’re not a shitty person and genuinely there to help you + the organisation fulfil your potentials is such bad form. There’s banter and then there’s belittling someone by constantly chipping away at their confidence.

Anyway, glad he’s got the last laugh and well done to him!

Its why they are where they are and he's where he is.

It didn't seem to phase him though which is great.

Yep, crazy to think that Sevilla are the only club to have won more EL/Uefa Cup titles than Emery (who has 4) and he won them 3 of theirs. Also cray to think that all 6 of Sevilla's have come in the last 15 years.

I think that I've just got a bit of an aversion to the use of the word bottle in games as it seems to be used almost every time a team loses a big game. Sometimes players just have poor games - we've had plenty of them. The fact that every player bar the keeper buried their penalty says to me that they can deal with pressure.

There were tears all over Barnstaple, Basingstoke and Basildon.

I now think it's high time that hypocritical pundits and the media should all start saying that Man United just don't have the mentality to get over the line when it matters, and players like Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes need to leave the club to win things for the sake of their careers and that the Glazers shouldn't stand in their way, but unfortunately they won't will they because they are selective in who they do that to......

Wont Tuchel be getting it as well. Lets see, he got top 4 by the skin of his teeth because we beat Leicester on the last day.
He lost the FA Cup final.
If he loses the CL Final as well then he's just a shit Avram Grant ;)

There were one or two but I bet in years to come they will still be on display in the cabinets at home. Losing on the last kick of a penalty shoot out which was brilliant to watch was no disgrace.
Agree, too me the the foriegn players showed more grace in defeat than our home grown ones ,very disappointing to see, just seemed rude.
