It was indeed.

Sugar wasn't exactly a Football man, but he saved us from bankruptcy, so I'll cut him some slack.

But shortly after Enic bought us, Abramovich bought Chelsea, which saw them explode once they got Mourinho on board. At that point the main players were Utd and the goons, both of whom have now regressed somewhat.
Then City won the lottery when we were starting to challenge.

Enic have steadily grown us from a club that were going the way Villa went, to one of the World's biggest clubs in their 20 year tenure. Considering what happened with Chelsea and City, and the head start Utd and the goons gained on us, what they have achieved is pretty remarkable without going into massive debt. Even Pool had to have a few buy outs before getting their first Prem title, they went massively into debt a few times on just playing staff.

Whilst I agree that we probably should have had more trophies in that time, it's not like we haven't been close is it? Poch made a couple of finals himself, we just couldn't quite get across the line. That's not on Enic for me, that's just the nature of one off cup finals.

good stuff. But the Club is in massive debt, and ENIC certainly isn’t.

and we are on at least a mini slide which needs to be arrested, by one or two more signings to enable us to put a competitive side out In 4 comps. And these new boys need to be in and settled before the season starts. Oh...

Metalhead

But that's a debate for another thread.....

We spent all those years in mid table because the club was bankrupted by a previous regime FFS.

We weren't bought by an oil Baron, so it's taken years of careful husbandry to get us back to where we are now. In that time, Utd went on to become the biggest club in the World, Chelsea got their oil Baron, City got another and the goons thrived under Dean.

Either you have no idea of our history or you're ignoring it to serve an agenda.
We went into administration didn't we? I don't think that we ever went bankrupt before Sugar took over. It wasn't a lack of money that kept us mid table under Sugar: he did spend money - it was a lack of a coherent plan or I guess: 'project' would be the modern equivalent term.

But in business, debt that’s more than backed by assets and revenue to support its servicing, much of which is generated by the existence of asset that the debt made possible, in this case the stadium, is not a bad thing but a good thing.

You couldn’t remove the debt and still have the revenue.

The problem is we want the owners to be less commercially professional than they’re determined to be. That’s the real issue.

you had me there till the punchline. More willing to invest in the playing side, without which we will not be returning to the CL any time soon. You can listen to the Managers comments to appreciate that we are currently short in at least one key position.

Yes, I like everyone else would like to see more invested in the playing side. It feels like it should be a good investment, apart from anything.

But there's not one of us here on this forum, not me, not you, not anyone regardless of how loudly they shout, who knows either how much is the right amount relative to the company’s overall finances at this moment, the undertaking on its loan agreements and so on, nor how much they’re prepared to invest given the right player and their estimation of the right price, all costs included.

The fact that we are short in at least one position doesn’t change the finances.

I think lots of people just want the owners to put their own money into the transfer kitty. As I’ve said before, that’s the real issue.

And we are very specifically working on rectifying that.......and he is confident that we will rectify it.

Further “Manager’s comments” that you chose not to add.

we are always short in more than one key position, which is because they have under invested for years in the playing side.

They are always reactive, always pushing out the sell to buy narrative to maintain this brand in the market of not taking any shite.

Youre right none of us know the magic numbers but I reckon theres real interest in Rose, Foyth, Aurier and probably Sissoko which we could have converted into a 30m plus striker
and still had significant loose change on the wage bill.

So there’s not just the under investment point there’s the insistence on wringing every last pound note out of transactions that leads to stagnation in the squad and under-achievement on the pitch.

if you’re happy trotting in after Leicester and Wolves each season while the concerts are held and flats are built then good for you. On current trajectory that’s your fate.

One crap performance in the first couple of games and the “bed wetting” will start, because most fans are reactive too. But there will still be a wall of you spouting your they’re really smart commercially / what do you expect they’re an investment company / I don’t want a benefactor horse shit.

I want a trophy before I‘m put out to stud

You make the same mistake a lot of people do.

Trying to properly understand how the club works is not the same as being happy finishing behind Leicester, not winning a worthwhile trophy or not wanting anything to change.

Why would you even think that was the case?

your post reads like tangled spaghetti

your only view is that those who question ENIC don’t understand

Have a good Saturday

No it’s not.

Question ENIC by all means. I do. There’s plenty I‘d like them to do differently.

My point is to try to understand their reasons before you complain about them, rather than just making assumptions based on guesswork and/or misunderstandings.

Then our complaints will carry far more weight.

Jose still believes in Levy... I don't

He's let down every manager he ever appointed, antagonizing them all with his parsimony. And now it's happening all over again. A leopard never changes his spots...

You’ve misread his post.

He was merely answering the implied accusation in your earlier post that he is happy finishing below Leicester etc. He isn’t anything of the sort and it’s a lazy straw man fallacy to suggest that he is.

His actual point was that understanding, and explaining, how ENIC operates shouldn’t be confused with necessarily supporting everything that they do or with tacitly accepting mediocrity.

I haven’t, he’s just another passive who might be a tad disappointed but falsely either believes there’s a tomorrow where the owners change their spots or there’s no alternative to their masterful commercial acumen.

“Another passive”? Behave.

With respect, you’ve already shown that you haven’t understood what Leds Zeppelin was saying so you really don’t have the right to judge him more generally.

Passive?

haha! Seriously, and this is my main point, it is better not to guess.

Please try harder to appreciate the difference between explaining and excusing.
