I doubt Metz and Levante consider having to put out seven subs against Lyon and Real places them at any greater disadvantage than having to put out five; or that restricting the big boys to five subs limits their advantage.

We're merely belatedly coming into line with the rest of Europe. And if Levy has been one of the prime movers in this, good on him. I still think he's a bit of a ****, though.

You put it better than I could.

Thats what I mean.

Surely it doesn't really make much difference to clubs through the league, you can still only make 3 substitutions.

This is what i thought........why is everyone and his mother getting so excited about having another 2 subs on the bench?
Even if we are allowed to name 12 subs........we can still only use 3 of them.
The only way this is going to have an adverse effect on poorer clubs is when they will have to pay out for the extra travel tickets for flights and trains etc......

i know its happend once, but cant remeber if it has happend more recently, but we have named no defenders on the bench only for one or two of them to get injured, with 2 extra subs we could put another defender on the bench and just make sure we have cover instead of shifting people about to cover other places!

I don't think it's going to make much dent in the millions they rake in. At best it's £20,000 a season, probably less than 0.1% of turnover

That has happened Yid-ol, and some teams have not had a sub GK on the bench! But...my point is, IMO, that it will not give us any advantage over other teams, If we are 1-0 up, with 15 mins to go, and decide to put on 3 defenders and then concede a goal or 1-0 down and put on 2 more strikers and a midfielder and that does not work? The other team will still be able to make adjustments because they will have the same options, i dont think it is a really big deal having 2 more subs on the bench......Now if we could use 4 or more subs, well that is a different ball game altogether, based on who would be on the bench!
Having said all this, what you say about not having to rearrange the midfield and defence is valid, but again it is down to who the manager/coach has on the bench in the first place.

So, if the same two teams won everything every season and there was no hope of anybody else winning anything that wouldn't get boring? I know, if it were us, I'd love it for the first few years but after that, well, I don't know. I think it might take the shine off.

well trust me if it was us it would take a long time to take the shine off :) but I agree maybe eventually - the point is that's not gonna happen - ATM it's a 4 club league effectively (except for the Carling) - and I'd like to us doing a little better than currently (well a lot better than currently - but I try to be realistic) and if the 7 subs rule gives us a bit of an edge over less wealthy teams - great :)

Don't get me wrong - I think it will give us an edge over between 10 and 15 other teams in the division. My concern is that it will give the 4 teams that we're trying to catch up with an even greater edge over us!
